Dead pressure plate/clutch

This is older news, but just thought I would share the chaos that is brought about when the clutch/pressure plate finally decides to go.

The honda guys at the garage i do all my work in couldnt beleive that cars with torque break pressure plates... I actually managed to keep is driving on it for almost 10k after the first crack happened last year.

not 1 crack, not 2, but 4

heres the new stuff that went in, courtesy RRE.

Is that a sprung or un-sprung 6 puck? I drove a friends K20 swapped EG hatch with an upsrung 6 puck...I'd hate to drive that thing all the time. And how the crap did you damage your plate like that? 6k clutch drops?

lol, the new one is sprung, yes. the clutch pedal feels just a bit harder than stock. but it grabs like a sonofabitch

as far as damaging the old one...

i put one of the very first (just like every thing else) CM stage1's in my car, that batch wasnt quite right, the clamp load was off, and the clutch burned out in about 2-3k miles. when i replaced the disc i didnt replace the burnt to hell flywheel face or pressure plate. so, 10k miles later, the old burnt up one finally decided to go.

I am very easy on my car, i dont do the clutch dump BS or try and no lift shift it... theres no reason, i want my shit to last. which is why i was able to make it so far on something that was already broke.

Horse if you could throw me a bone on what it takes to drop the tranny on our cars I think you would be helping alot of others out as well. I will end up doing it myself eventually, but would like to know what I'm getting into before I start taking shit apart. I will probly do the clutch/flywheel myself, and bring the tranny to a shop for the LSD.

Awww yours was a CM kit too. I had a stage 2 one on mine that burnt out in about 5000km so just like you. I wouldnt ever buy a CM clutch after that experience.

My plate was cracked to hellp burn(friction) marks on flywheel with also a slight crack in it.

well, CM's new revised stuff is pretty good for us. the pressure plate is a new design and new material. i have faith in the new set-up.

I hear ya but I got to say that's pretty shitty a company would put out a product and appearantly know it isnt proper, if they have to revise it. Then do basically nothing but tell me to pull it out of my car and send it in if I want to have it looked at. I mean it really was more of a blow off attempt then anything(almost making it sound like I dont know how to drive). They even knew the car was barely driven and only had 5000km when it went, and really didnt care too much. So I guess I just dont like the fact they had to revise something and dont just flat out tell me they will re emburse me for selling me something they knew was not 100% correct.

I should really try calling them up again and actually ship it, only shitty thing is if they do nothing about it like I think they will all the shipping costs I will incur will have been for nothing

I hope it works out better for you this time though.

peace

well, heres the deal, they know that first batch was bad, i know 3 people personally that it happened to.

joe sent his stuff back in and got fixed. mine is still sitting in my garage cause im lazy. and the other guy sent his stuff in and got fixed. CM was expecting it, as long as it was parts failure, and not somrthing you did, then you are good.

WHAT---THE---FCUK---CARL !!!

Just how much of a beating does your car take on a daily basis??? I mean, DAMN I would hate to be resurrected as one of your future cars!

I was gonna say, Bilal... street clutch like that, unlikely to be unsprung. I'd love to have a kev-ceramic multi-puck in the 4G. Just not a great time for me to mess with a perfectly working clutch

The car's friggin' 3 years old already and nothing on the powertrain's needed replacing yet... thank God

Out of curiousity, when did they come out with the new "revised stuff" I got my clutchmasters stage 2 back in May and I just want to make sure that it's not one of the old "bad batches"

Not sure, the only thing that really needed changing was the pressure plate material. They are using the same thing for our car as they use in their Pro-Race cars.

I thought mike said puck clutches were bad?
Something about the disc heating up to a point where it trashes the pressure plate/flywheel over time? ( because it can grip while its searing hot) I think I read a thread in which the conclusion was that the disc itself (puck) is bombproof, but will shred the rest of the components if it gets too hot in there.

I need to get this shit straight because I'm going to need a clutch thats good for 350+HP and I want it to be the first and last clutch job I do.
