Modding in TX is pretty much everything goes underglow in some cities is illeagal unless parked! i just went to the TDPS website couldn't find anything on modding your car at all but you might want to check your city's laws cuz it varies! Window tint as well can't go beyond a certain point on the driver and passenger windows not sure what % back pass. windows can be above 50% but below 75% i think no front window tint!

I have a question for you Cali people, I live in Pennsylvania, I saw here that engine mods in Cali are illegal, are Cold Air Intakes counted? I saw some, show once where the cop stopped some people and made them open there hoods to inspect for "illegal mods"

^as long as parts on a car in cali are c.a.r.b. (california air resource board) certified you're ok, aem makes some c.a.r.b. certified cai's.

however, i'm in upstate ny on the vt boarder. fortunately i live in a small town and have the hook ups, but staties always get you on tint here (35% i think? correct me if not). i've also been pulled over for my exhaust. it used to be in ny state that under 93 dbs was legal, but under legislation passed just over a year ago it is illegal to have your exhaust be louder than it came stock, and you must retain your stock catalytic converter. same as others we aren't allowed led's, strobes, or underglow while moving, but unless there is a noise ordinance in effect where you happen to be driving any sound system is technically legal.

hope this helps anyone wishing to visit the crap ass state of ny

Not sure if the F5 is DOT legal or not. I know my old K&N wasn't street legal, but never had an issue with it. I've been pulled over many times by PA cops, never had one inspect for illegal mods.

What part of PA you from?

I live out near West Chester, PA. I had a local cop hassle me about my HID's (I had 6000K, that they weren't the right "color" no blue and my tints. I put 4300K, and changed my tint from 15% to 35% seems to be ok now. Where you located?

I live in Upstate NY, Corning to be exact and actually stuff here is really strict. I talked to the police officer at my school and she showed me the book of her police rules and according to the book all aftermarket parts are illegal, pretty much with the exception of body kits. Anything that changes the car mechanically from how it came from the dealer. Lowering, Exhaust, Turbo, Nitrous and so on. Also all tints below 75% are illegal, but according to many cops anything above about 35% they wont pull you over. All underglows and other lights that resemble emergency vehicles are also illegal. Also cars that have modded the headlights in anyway, aka halos and HID's are also illegal. So pretty much all car modding.

Just read this on the WA laws for motor vehicles.

(3) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the engine of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle not equipped as required by this subsection, or which has been amplified as prohibited by this subsection. A court may dismiss an infraction notice for a violation of this subsection if there is reasonable grounds to believe that the vehicle was not operated in violation of this subsection.

So does this mean if i bought a exhaust for a performance benefits that its okay?

Well as far as I know every car with a after market exhaust is to be pulled over and ticked. That's coming from the local sherif that thinks the law is bs. This nov expect a new bill to vote for reguarding this =)

Cali laws can differ, not all are true.

Reading all of these makes me want to drive my Eclipse less now

I'm in southern California with 35% tint and haven't gotten stopped yet. My dad is actually the daily driver and he drives it everyday to work and he works on a military base. He did tell me that a security noticed that he didn't have a license plate in the front but we never put it on because we see lots of cars without them.

Also I just installed my magnaflow cat-back exhaust and drove it today right by a stopped police car, and did nothing. The exhaust is not as loud as serious fart cannons out there that have silencer-holes for a reason...

My dad also took the car to the auto shop on base to get an oil change and the guy who did it complimented the cold air intake

For those who don't know, if you are active duty in the military you get a sticker placed on your car showing that you are in the military and your car is registered to the military base. I guess police go easy on the cars here because MOST of them are owned by U.S. Marines. I mean I do live close to the biggest Marine corp base in Cali

Also found that:

-Turbo'ing a vehicle that was N/A from the manufacturer is illegal, PERIOD.

True? False?

So I'm guessing the cars in Import Tuner mags are illegal but they are there. Unless they are show cars of course.

on iceland you are not allowed to have any under glow on your car as NEON and all that stuff..

if exhaust is big and makes noise u might get stopped.

all window tint in driver side window and front is banned

you may lower your car as much as you want but you cant lower your car here 1mm without scraping your front bumper on the speed bumps.

some engine mods not allowed not sure what.

and ofc NOS not allowed but still being sold here in local car shops xD

I tend to drive with my underglow blue neons on every once in a while (whenever looking for trouble), only on freeways though, but I guess I've been getting lucky. Sometimes I tend to drive next to cops, but they will not stop me. Maybe because I drive speed limit IDK. But I'm waiting to be stopped to take this to court and ask why it is illegal (we know the answer to this one) and then take it to the next level! (supreme court) .. but according to them it's because it distracts other drivers and can create accidents.

Neons lights aint no different than looking at a lamborghini (sorry if misspelled) or a ferrari passing by. Besides Suiting up a car is something like expressing yourself, and I believe it violates my amendments!!!

If you look at the projectors made for the eclipse they say DOT aka DOT legal which makes them 50 state legal. Also now that the 09's come with them no one would know the diff anyway

Alaska:

What I know of some laws here.

We can go with straight pipes if we want, and be as loud as we want. However after 10PM there is a noise law.

there is tinting limits,Front windshield may be tinted 5 inches below top, front side windows must allow 70% of light through, Rear sides and back window must allow 40% of light through.

We are allowed to have radar detectors and jammers.

unless you live in Anchorage there is no smog restrictions.

All in all up here they are very forgiving to the vehicle modder and also people are allowed to ride their ATV's and Snowmachines along side the roadways here to go wherever you want, of course that is not Allowed in Anchorage, Anchorage sucks...LOL

Oklahoma has no inspections
So who really cares?
They only care about red or blue underglow on the front or back of the car when moving.
Pipes have to be past the passenger compartment. that's it on exhaust.
We have noise pollution here.. I learned that the hard way.
Only tinting that is illegal is the windshield. And ive only seen one person pulled over for it.
God i love rednecks..

Also, radar jammers and detectors are legal, but if a cop does see it. Your getting a ticket for sure.

Wow now I see why I love MI so much, tints we can have 30% or above exhaust unless its extremely loud you dont get pulled over you can boost a car all you want you can have nitrous in your car as long as its not armed you can have amber colored underglow not that being a ricer and having underglow is a benifit. HID's are illegal or for off road use but cops usually wont pull you over for them.
