Amp power wire install?

I used search a few times, but I'm still confused...

How do you get the power wire for an amp from the engine bay into the cabin? I got the fenderwall thingy off, and followed the wire bundle to a grommet...that can't be removed and appears to be extremely tightly packed. What am I missing? The only 2 options I can see are:

1. cutting into the grommet and thereby making it useless
2. pulling the tape off and squeezing/forcing the power wire through there and hoping I don't screw anything up

Am I missing something obvious? Which option are people taking here? This was so much easier in my xB. :/

Thanks!

Whatever you end up doing make sure you get some black silicone goo to waterproof whatever you've opened up.

But where do you drill? I can go buy a grommet but I don't want to randomly drill and do bad things.

As for anyone saying (including the guy who posted the sticky) that you can install an amp wire in 30 mins through the driver-fender-grommet: Until you show pics and give a step by step, you're lying through your teeth or you have no bones in your body. The thing doesn't even line up properly from the inside to the outside.

I pulled back the mat and covering up behind the brake pedal. Then had someone tap one the inside of the engine bay on the firewall (yeah not foolproof but it was pretty reliable) and located where to drill. I then used a smaller drillbit to make a starter hole then finished it with the larger one. It's been in over a year now and there hasn't been any water leakage.

Did you use a grommet?

Yep, got it - thanks a ton!

Almost hit my break assembly in the process, but almost doesn't count except in horseshoes, handgrenades, and pregnancy scares.

Tomorrow we'll work on actually getting everything working - given how much effort it took (had to remove the battery) just to get a friggin' wire run, that's a big enough victory for today.

cool, glad it worked out! No, I didn't use a grommet or silicone (best idea to to use one) but like I said, we haven't had any water leakage in over a year and she's driven through some pretty sloshed areas...

Well, as a friend of mine pointed out: given how high-up it is there, if you've got water reaching that spot, you've got some serious issues regardless of whether or not there's a hole.

I need to try some of these idea's, I ran mine from battery with zipties down, and up through where the steering comes through the floor.
