HOW TO: Light up rear decklid mod

Ok SO I was told I might aswell add this here so I am. Now I know its not the best description but itshould help you out if youwant the decklid lit up with neon.

Here is what I did in short I guess:
I took a dremel on high speed with an arbor band on it( just sandpaper really on a small spindle), and turned the deck lid over.

Then from behind I ground down the letters spelling eclipse all the way till it was flush with the rest of the deck lid, or really close.

Then there is little bits left but for the most part its completley cutout. So for that I just used an exacto knife around the edges of the lettering. I want to get some pharmaldahie(ya I know sp) so I can make the edges go really smooth(not a big concern though).

Then I found some neon tubing. Some people used like one 24" tube of their color chouce I used like 3 smaller ones.

Then just cut some holes in the plastic areas of the back to use to mount it kind of. Used acrylic resin though to really hold it on.

Now for over the actual eclipse lettering I used some of the crystal clear with ripple type plastic that goes over the halogen lighting banks. in overhead lights.

Used some clear expoxy to get it to hold to the decklid

Now if you want the maximum light I suggest tryin to cover the whole backing of the decklid to hold light in> prefferbly white color or chrome.

I dont know thats really all I did. Sorry I didnt save pics or even do any of the process.

Oh ya and thanks everyone so far on the comments of my car. I am glad you all like it.

I thought about blue tint cause it was different and also for such a vibrant color of car I felt black would be to dark of a contrast for tint.

peace

I hope this helps

Awww damn... no :worthless: smiley.

Pics might help

Also, just as a suggestion, the decklid is made of urethane - really soft stuff that can easily be hacked up with a box cutter. For those who have a bit of control and popeye arms, a box cutter might help to make cleaner cuts than a dremel.

I've also thought about this a bit before. Another way to produce a "stealth" lighting effect would be by way of a clear plastic panel (local hardware store - windows). Imagine having the same look as stock, but with the lighting effects at night.

To do this, cleanly cut out the bottom of the "ECLIPSE" lettering, and save the piece for later. Place your acrylic sheet, cut to proper dimension (LxW) and place right under the decklid. Then, using whatever clear gluing system you prefer to use (for instance, glue gun or silicone is fine if you're not concerned about how things look underneath the decklid), glue the cut-out "ECLIPSE" lettering to your acrylic sheet, and be careful of beads coming through to the inside of the lettering. Next, create some enclosure for which to house your lighting method of choice. This light should pretty much pass through your acrylic sheet by refraction at night, producing that lighting effect you so desire.

This way, your decklid looks as stock as you like it to be in the daytime, and will light up as ricey as you want it to at night!

Ya I am sure pics would come in handy. I will try and get some together even though its kind of hard to show what was done now.

I wish I really wasnt an idiot and had taken some while I was doing it.
