Just for kicks, anyone ever measure the voltage that passes through when that pin is hot?

That might be something that's actually worth a shit to me, since I really still think this DRL discussion is purely... sorry... unnecessary

do you have to disable the DRLs if you want to install HIDs? or is it safe to keep the HIDs on at all times?

I wouldn't necessarily say so. Though I'm getting that most people on here rely on the stock low beam 12V hot wires for switched power. I hope to Gottlieb no one's stupid enough to use this for 12V constant!

There are other ways to power HIDs. Constant direct from the battery and switched from park is where I have mine wired up

There, I done said it.

I see...

Well, let's hear it from others who've done it. Personally I really prefer not to mess with it, since 12v constant power for HID ballasts really shouldn't come from the fusebox. They need more reliable sourced power for that, especially considering when you flip from low to high, you lose power right there.

I prefer direct sourced power, and switched power from a source that's ALWAYS hot... like park. It may not be the coolest thing to use a different switch, but I'd use the foglight for easy access, and use the headlight toggle for high solely for switching beams.

I really don't think disabling the DRL function of the car is necessary. I really don't know why it was an issue to begin with, if sourcing for power was done correctly! (Then again, most people really can't tell "correct" from "what I read on the boards...")

I have 2008 Spyder and this bending of the prong on # 2 doesn't work on my car. I have the Blackbox. If someone figuares it out PM or repost? I currently am using my high beam power out to power my HIDS. It works just need to hit the high beam to turn on my lights. Confuses the valet guys If you install the HIDS on the lower day running time you'll get a really cool light show but I wouldn't do it since your expensive igniters will hate you!

Remove or bend the this connector so it does not establish a connection when you pop the ecu back in place. (I bent it so I could always bend it back to normal position). Follow the patter on the bottom of the ecu to make sure you bend the right connector.

Effects:
I did this a few months ago. The DRL's are finally disabled. No thrown codes.. the only thing that also gets disabled I observed is when I unlock the car.. the turning signals dont flash. Not that important nonetheless

*for others who have done this.. let me know if when you unlock the car this happens... Im curious if this is it or its from something else.

It doesn't work for the 08 models I have tried it and went through every possible combination with the unit off removing each pin one at a time with no luck.

I installed HIDS since they have no high beams I wired them directly to the high beam side with a relay for the fog lights and I'm good to go!

Just have to turn on the lights as normal and turn on the high beams. It drives the valet guys crazy they think my head lights dont work

I always have my fog lights or driving lights on at night any ways so to me its not a step more for me and now I do it out of habit like I turning on my head lights!

Good Luck!!

I just talked to Brian and he said just to cut the pin to disable the DRL's.

Brian= No, I didn't have independent control of the fogs...it was just an internal modification to remove the DRL's...you could do it yourself, just open the ECU up and cut the lead for the pin, instead of bending it.

Hey stuntjunkie... by wiring both low- and high- 12Vs up in parallel, does the power flicker at all when flipping switch?

I've always thought this could be so much simpler. Occam's Razor. If you have to circumvent so much wiring, why go through it?

I'd take 12V coil power from park independent fogs, or headlight main switched power, and use 12V constant straight from the battery. Retain use of the factory harness high 12V power for non-ballast powered bulbs.

Either way I say any HID system will need more juice than the factory wire gauges can provide so 12V constant straight from the battery is good in any case.

Well this is strange; I just recently walked a new friend on AIM through this (he has an 08 with a black box) and I told him to just bend the pin and he said it worked great?

I did it the discrete way. Opened up that box and snipped the bridge between that pin's power supply and the motherboard. Worked perfect, completely reversible, and not a sign of tampering. I love being a digital electronics teacher : )

why not try a black piece of electral tape first. or a finger nail polish a thin coat. because theres this old trick you can go to someones house and unplug their tv dvd or any plug in wall socket device and coat it with finger nail polish -fast drying- and plug it back in and watch them try to turn on their tvs. no electry current will flow and they will think their tv or etc is broken . and it can be removed neatly.

Bending the pin didn't work for me... it still was making contact so i had to bend it and then tape it. After that it was fine. Not a huge deal and its still reversible. Not like you would ever REALY need to reverse it.

Plus its anouther way to BEAT THE MAN! You control your headlights... not the MAN! Take back your RIGHTS AND CONTROL YOUR OWN DAMN HEADLIGHTS!

The odometer is probley the strongest device on the whole car.... its like the black box for a plane. Hell you could drive your car into a black hole and even with the distortion of time it will still read your correct Odo reading. Silly how that works hu?
