RRE 2.4L MIVEC Underdrive Pulley

*Info added by Jhun35*

The RRE Underdrive pulley is a direct swap with the crankshaft pulley that comes stock on our engines. It slows down the engine, and due to the lower weight ( 0.58lbs and stock is 3.911 lbs) it increases the amount of power to the wheels. This is because of the lower rotational mass.

^Stock pulley up top, RRE at bottom.

RRE Installed

Install difficulty is a 1.5/5

Can be obtained through the following vendors: www.roadraceengineering.com , www.autocityimports.com

Original Pulley

RRE's 2.4L Pulley

To me, accelerating from complete stop feels slightly better. High end I don't notice that much. Maybe a dyno will show something?

Either way, fun to install, fun low end gains. Maybe high end gains that I dont notice.

Edit: forgot to mention, AC and heater blows fine. Radio just as loud, Everything else works just as fine. No changes other than fun gains from my experience. Many rumors have been floating around that this affects other systems on the car but thats not the case with me.

Is that the same as a what I used to call an harmonic balance? If it is we don't have a speed sensor on them? last how does it make the car quicker if you have that new one on?....................thanks Brian

According to RRE's dyno sheet, 6-7WHP and 9ft/lbs of torque for 139. I think its worth it. Similar gains from exhaust and intake cost more than twice as much.

RRE

Theres RRE's page on it with some descriptions if you wanna learn about it.

i find it to be worth the money. and like Tsensational said it is a cheap fun mod with no ill effects.

the only problem i had was the belt that came with it only lasted 10,000 km's. ordered a new one (same type) and this one has lasted 20,000 km's and still looking good.

so is the pulley worth the risk?

kxwhite, apparently you've had the pulley for a while given the mileage you've put on it. Have you noticed any problems due to the fact that this pulley has no harmonic dampener? Anyone else can feel free to chime in on this as well. I want the pulley but not if it's going to wreck bearings or shafts, etc.

Is it safe?
Yes, the 2.4 MIVEC has a stock harmonic pulley, which acts as a dampener against vibration on the crank. The stock crank is semi balanced although the balance shafts in the 2.4 MIVEC engine do the primary job of dampening true vibration and balance of the whole engine. The stock pulley is meant to smooth idle out and keep vibrations inside the cabin happy. On a stock car or after a few thousand miles your Eclipse develops worse vibrations/rattles then you would ever be able to feel with this pulley.

i know that the belt that comes with the kit is a cheapo.better to upgrade the belt before you install it.the one that comes with it isnt going to last as long as a good one.so yea,its probably the belt.

not really difficult.id rather had it a lil closer to the top so that i dont have to take off the splash shields off when i do have to change it.it would be much simpler if i could get at it from under the hood instead of under the car.
