AWD Eclipse....

Anybody think they'll ever bring back an AWD Eclipse???

Id LOVEEEE to see the new generation as an AWD car again. I love my 09, but id love it 10 times more if it was AWD....

Anybody heard if mitsu ever planned on possibly doin it again???

it was a concept that they had for an independant rear wheel electronic boost system. was basically one gear that would be a continuous flow of power when you accellerate. can turn the feature on or off by the push of a button. runns off its own battery. 100 extra hp to the back wheels.

it was a whole concept car in itself. was a hybrid eclipse. but it never made it past the concept. then they talked about the EBoost being sold as an added feature being a rear wheel motor mounted system... but i still have not seen anything come out. trust me ive definitely searched! i would LOVE to get my hands on something like this.

i'm going to say this but people may not like the simple truth .

the newer style eclipse is not a fan favorite people do not like its style at all . and its underpowered engine with its curb weight . the v6 engine is pretty powerfull but it is underpowered mistu could have made its 262hp turn to 300hp with out a blink but they did not because of there main market car the evo . when people hear Mitsubishi they think evo not eclipse galant ect. (fyi galant is spelled wrong i believe hehe)
mistu probably will not spend any more money on the eclipse my theory is like most others is that the eclipse is done and mistu does not want to waste money on a car that most people won't buy . yeah a awd turbo eclipse would be great again but the looks also count people hate the 3&4g because of the looks not its power .
the 4g eclipse was ment for competition with the g35 but failed with power looks and luxury style ....

all my typing came from me and some other writings i found on the internet over the past years when the catfish came out

I have to agree with jimbo here. mitsu's main car is the evo. once they started bringing the awd evo platform to the states, the awd option for the eclipse ended because they dont want the eclipse to out sell their main cash crop.

now if you ask me thats a dumb idea if ever there was one. i see it this way, in the past few years the evo's main competition was the wrx, and while the evo did succeed in spanking the wrx on quite a few instances, if mitsu would have put an awd eclipse in the linup too then they would have completely cornered the market for compact awd sport coupes. 2 on 1 always nets a bigger ass whoopin than 1 on 1.

Another reason they didnt add the awd is the eclipse had the potential to outshine the evo. most will agree that the eclipse styling is much better than the evos but the evo has a far greater edge performance wise. if that edge was taken away then the eclipse would be the victor but it would completely defeat the purpose of bringing the evo to the states in the first place.

My 2 cents:

Look at subaru, they have ALLLLLL AWD vehicles. Each car is made with a specific market in mind. I duno if an AWD eclipse would outshine the EVO. I really DONT. If anything it'd end up in competition with the likes of the WRX.

Some people may say they like the Eclipse styling better, over the Evo, some may say vice versa. It's alllllllll dependent on each person own opinion. You can't speak for the whole world ya know.

In my personal opinion I LOVE the Eclipses styling and I get compliments on my 09 ALLLLL the time. I had an 06 but wanted the sun and sound package so I got my 09. The styling actually grew on me because at first I wasn't a fan, but as I saw it more and more I loved it more and more.

Some may argue that the Evo is too boxy for them.

It depends on what YOU WANT. Do you want a boxy/RALLY INSPIRED car that will HAUL ASS????? Or do you want a sleek, curvy, sexy car that would haul ass (if it had AWD)......

Some may pick the boxy/rally inspired car BECAUSE they like the rally inspired look (not to mention the background of rally racing behind it)..... some may like the sleek, curvy look better and pick that.

In my opinion I think the two cars appeal to two different groups of people. I like BOTH cars. Evo and Eclipse. I like the Eclipses styling better, but I LOVE the Evos performance better (respectively).... EVEN if the eclipse was lightened up, and had the AWD added I dont think it would be in competition with the EVO at ALLLL. The Evo is up against cars like the STi, g35x and s4. If the Eclipse had AWD it'd be more in a group like the WRX. Right now there's really nothing else up against the WRX. It's in a league all it's own and I think Mitsu should take a shot at that league with an AWD Eclipse......

^^There you pretty much said it. It depends on what you want. Since that's what you want why not really find an AWD Coupe such as Nissan GT-R? I'm not trying to an ass here but AWD Eclipse wish posts are getting extremely old and you have to face it's the past and IT WON'T HAPPEN.

Just like Piddy and Jimbo said, Eclipse competitors are car's in the same price range and none of those cars are AWD so what's the point? Of course all of us would love to have AWD but put yourself in Mitsubishis' shoes. Why would Mitsubishi spends more money and introduce the AWD for Eclipse when it's sales figures aren't pretty and lack of competitor but against it's own line up?

I'm not even sure why are you even comparing Subaru to Mitsubishi base on AWD. Subaru doesn't even make a sports coupe to begin with so its completely irrelevant to bring Subaru in for this. Mitsubishi's new Ralliart Lancer and it's hatchback are meant to go against WRX not Eclipse. When another company makes an AWD sports coupe within 20-30k range then I'm sure Mitsubishi will think about it. Right now it's just not worth it.

Nowadays I could care less if It's RWD/FWD/AWD. None of those matters when you're just driving on the regular street with civil matter. As long as it moves off the line quick enough when the light turns green, why does it really matter?

Im saving up right now for the AWD for our 4G. Just had to buy a truck and my soon to be wife (13days) a new wedding band set. Darn girls wants diamonds and them having to be big. 10bucks says she thinks its way to small in like 5months even though it was the biggest in the darn store.

I have to agree with everything except that the eclipse isn't selling.. I see a toooooon of eclipses here in so cal. The only problem is 90% of the people who own didn't buy it to mod it. If u noticed like on radio commercials, mitsu then started to market this car as a daily driver, gas saver especially the gs and it worked better. The 4g will never see awd and it's years on the market are wrapping up. With that in mind, I dont think the 4g did enough In the "tuner" world that would convince mitsu that an awd would have a big market to even do this on a 5g. But we'll see..

you make good valid points but . suby has been making awd for ever not mistu sub has alot of car line up mistu does not .
subaru is known for its rally cars \awd DD cars also .

mistu never really put a awd turbo car out but for the evo and the 1g 2g eclipse ..

subaru makes awd cars in there sleep lol
