Installing headers for the 4G
I understand most of you guys do your own header installs but for those who sourced it out to a shop, what were you guys quoted?
Saying this because I called up MAPerformance here in Minneapolis and they said 5 hours @ $100/hr rate. WTF? |

Ok you guys are gs this was on the GT so ya I would just do it yourself man. You don't have the pain in the ass rear exhaust manifold like the GT it would take 1 hour to do if you never have and all goes well.

Id just do it your self man, only reason i had shop do it cuz i was moving and was feeling lazy.. ive swaped mine out for emitions and put back on took about 45 min but make sure you let them cool off or you will strip your 02 sensors due to metal expanding and contracting

For the GS, RRE headers are easier. Long tubes on the GS is much harder, as you will need to cut the exhaust after the third catalytic converter. Then your stuck with the task of welding or clamping that area back on with two different diameter pipes. Its not too bad if you're doing headers and cat back exhaust since the piping is the same diameter and will clamp together.

Ah crap. Sounds like I'll have to take it to a muffler shop in that case because of the welding to the stock piping. Magnaflow axleback FTL.
They should probably know a thing or two about extending O2 sensors also. |

for the GS it should be pretty damn quick....2 - 3 at most.... GT is a whole nother story. but yeah, $100/hr. seems a hair high to me, but not TOO bad. you are looking at a few hundred if you have someone else do it. man if you can turn a socket wrench you can put headers on a GS.

I took mine off yesterday to check something, and put them back on in a grand total of 30 minutes.
If you take them to a shop....you deserve what you get. Seriously, it's easy as fuck. Unbolt old ones, bolt on new ones. Seriously, what could possibly be easier?

Sorry I should've been more specific... long tube headers. The OEM pipe needs to be cut off and the long tubes need to be welded on. Bought a new exhaust manifold gasket from Mitsubishi also for the new headers.

how far do you live from a exhaust shop. cause you could install the header yourself and drive the car to the exhaust shop.

I'm going to be stopping by a few smaller muffler shops around in a bit (about 15-20 min drive) before attempting to remove the OEM manifold. Thanks for the responses though. There's now a rough idea on what is a decent price. ... which is anything under 500 bucks.
