Strut removal tool

So I ran into yet another problem with my strut/spring install. The front struts are not able to be removed/replaced very easily. I know what tool it is I need but the only thing is no one nearby sells them and I really want to finish this job today or tomorrow.

So my question is, how important is the torque settings on the front strut nut? - the manual says it was 14, or 17 ft-lb(off the top of my head) with +/-1-lb of tolerance. So If i just used a socket and grabbed it with some pliers, and stuck a Allen head in there, would it be safe to just tighten it down by hand as hard as I can?

I used an allen wrench and a socket with a really good pair of vice grips and it worked fine.

ok great haha, turns out my KYB replacement strut does not have that allen key slot. (found this out after I removed mine) Instead it is solid with a | | shape on top, so I have no idea what tool will work for that... hopefully i can torque it down when car is resting its weight on it, otherwise maybe the guys at shop will be able to tighten it when I get this thing aligned.

Edit: used an airgun.
