Keyhole under the sub cover
So the other day I was messing around cleaning in my 2007 Spyder GT and decided to remove the RF Sub-woofer cover cause I hear a rattling in there sometimes and I know there is some special tool in there just in case you have to manually close the top. So when I pop the cover off I see a keyhole. I was like what in the hell is this for so I stuck my key in it and it fit....So I was curious but didn't want to turn it cause I had no clue what it did. First I looked in the manual and there was nothing about it. The I looked on here and searched for almost an hour and nothing. So my curiosity go the best of me and I put my key back in and turned it and then click it popped the damn trunk!!! I assume this is only in the Spyders. I figured it was pretty cool and may be useful to someone.

Haha it just pops the trunk open. I was worried about turning it cause I thought it may have something to do with the convertible top. I will say I was a bit nervous cause there was nothing in the owners manual or online anywhere. I guess it is there just in case your battery is dead and you physically need a key to open the trunk. Anyway I thought it was pretty cool just to find something new.

This is the only way to "pop" the trunk from the inside of the car. There's no other button or anything.
Mitsu just had to make it mysterious for you.

its in a manual somewhere, i remember reading it. It may be in a section of the maintenance manual and not the owners manual.
interesting note- when i bought my car used, the original owner wasnt even aware of the button on the trunk to electrically open it, she strictly used the remote on the key fob. i was very surprised to find there was no interior release as most cars have these days. i imagine it was omitted as a safety feature, as you dont want the truck popping anytime the top is in motion why they didnt just put this keyhole on the trunk exterior, i have no idea. Anti theft maybe? i suppose it could prevent a second person from opening the trunk with a key, from outside the vehicle, while another is operating the top from within, at the same time, which would be a disaster and would bend some sheetmetal Last edited by MACH1219; November 5th, 2011 at 12:08 PM. |

I never found the trunk release button under the spoiler either! I was bad mouthing mitsubishi, wondering why my only trunk access was with the key fob, about the time my 9 year old daughter discovered it. So do the hatchbacks get a interior trunk release, and/or a external key access? how can you not have a remote? its attached to the key Last edited by MACH1219; November 5th, 2011 at 12:21 PM. |

One of my first threads was to try to find that out. But my final conclusion was just the leather seats, gas cap, the RF package and a little decal on the back that says Special Edition lol

Last time I checked you couldn't open or close the top with the trunk open. I found the button under the lip the first day I had my spyder.
