Review your car, what do you love and hate about your Eclipse?? Try to be unbiased.
First of all, I found it surprising to not find a thread like this on the forum. I did my search with both "love" and "hate", and didn't found anything like this, so here I go. I will try to do a review of my car while being the must unbiased possible. I will discuss several areas that are of concern to must users and owners of cars our kind, together with a rating from 1 to 10, 10 being the best and 1 being the worst. If you find that you disagree with me on some or all of the ratings, I invite you to debate the areas where you disagree, but with respect and data. I will use the Car & Driver rating format, but will add other categories such as reliability and operational cost.
Vehicle -Driver comfort- 10- That seat is really sexy and comfortable, plus it has the heater function. It holds me in place when I driver aggressively. -Rear seat comfort and space- 6- The rear seats are comfortable but space is almost nonexistent. Compare them with the RX-8's. -Trunk space- 8- The Sub-woofer takes a bit of the space, but the rear seats fold, and it is very easy to load and unload. -Features/Amenities- 7- My car being the 2006, lacks the USB aux, but otherwise, I think it is pretty loaded. -Fit and finish- 7- Some of the plastics in the car are less than expected. -Interior styling- 8- Very nicely executed, very intuitive to the hands, and very appealing to the young and not so young. -Exterior styling- 8- The rear end could use some work. Subtotal: 54/70 Powertrain -1/4 mile acceleration- 8- There are faster cars that are easier to launch. -Highway acceleration- 10- Nothing in its class can take us on a highway roll. -Flexibility- 10- Really good power delivery from low RPMs all the way to the redline. -Fuel economy- 6- I think there are better cars in this department. -Engine noise- 8- Sounds very sexy, though there are sexier engine notes in its class. -Engine vibration- 10- I think no one will ever complain of this in this car. -Engine harshness- 8- I find some harshness in the middle revs (3K to 4.5K), but they could be the results of the car not being new anymore. -Transmission- 7- The throws are a little long and the shifter feels a little spongy. The gears are nicely spaced. Subtotal: 73/80 Chassis -Steering feel- 7- I find the steering a little light to my taste, and a little isolated when compared to other cars in its class. -Brake feel- 9- I think the brakes talk to you very nicely and clear. Pedal modulation is spot-on and easy to feel. -Handling- 7- Let's face it, there are other cars that handle better, and that transmit what the tires are doing with more clarity. -Ride- 8- It's a little hard, but we are talking sporty coupes here, right? Subtotal: 31/40 Ownership -Reliability- 10- In my case, the car have run flawlessly all the time, with minor quibbles that were very easy to fix, I did the reparations and I'm not a certified mechanic. Not serious trouble areas. -Parts costs- 10- Very cheap car to maintain, the parts cost just a little more, if not the same than a Lancer or Outlander. Subtotal: 20/20 Grand total: 178/210 or 84.76%, which is a solid B. Not bad when you are comparing a 2006 car with 2011 cars. All in all, I'm very pleased with my buy, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun coupe with very low maintenance costs. Hope you enjoyed the reading. |

well, here is my quick and dirty review of my 08 Spyder GT...
Vehicle -Driver comfort- 10- Agreed, went for many 600+ miles straight drives, no complaints... -Rear seat comfort and space- 3, the Spyder's rear bench is a bit of a joke... good thing i only sat there twice ![]() -Trunk space- 8- while it's tiny, it's actually not bad for a convertible. between that and the rear seat, it never failed to pack what i needed (furniture, ski gear, GF's luggage...) -Features/Amenities- 7- My car being the 2006, lacks the USB aux, but otherwise, I think it is pretty loaded. SAME for the 08 -Fit and finish- 7- agreed -Interior styling- 10- despite the lack of all the recent goodies, the interior is sexy, especially at night and with the TerraCotta interior -Exterior styling- 8- The rear end could use some work. actually, i think the front end is a little weak without the Aero kit... (could be my winter project, to spice it up a bit, custom style) ![]() Subtotal: 53/70 Powertrain -1/4 mile acceleration- 8- agreed -Highway acceleration- 10- Nothing in its class can take us on a highway roll. Agreed -Flexibility- 10- Really good power delivery from low RPMs all the way to the redline. Agreed -Fuel economy- 6- I think there are better cars in this department. like i give a f**k ![]() -Engine noise- 8- Sounds very sexy, though there are sexier engine notes in its class. i cant remember what my 08 sounded like stock... the '11s sound like sex indeed... -Engine vibration- 10- I think no one will ever complain of this in this car. agreed, very quiet stock ride -Engine harshness- 8- a little bit at mid-range when you lift off the gas. overall though, very smooth for lazy driving (6 spd) with all the torque ! -Transmission- 8 - i like the 6 speed, but i must admit that i have never driven a true performance-oriented 6 speed manual... Subtotal: 68/80 Chassis -Steering feel- 9 - i like -Brake feel- 9- I think the brakes talk to you very nicely and clear. Pedal modulation is spot-on and easy to feel. agreed -Handling- 7 stock, 9 with minor mods ! -Ride- 9- I like, could use a little tighter / stiffer ride sometimes, but really good on highways. Subtotal: 34/40 Ownership -Reliability- 10- except for a f***in dealership mistake... great in the winter, never missed a beat -Parts costs- 10- Very cheap car to maintain, the parts cost just a little more, if not the same than a Lancer or Outlander. agreed Subtotal: 20/20 Overall : 175 out of 210... long story short, it's a sexy looking convertible, that will haul ass better than what most people expect... i like the styling, love the engine, and overall the car always brings a smile to my face when i need it ![]() PS: i'm 99% sure there is a similar thread already... Clessy should be coming in soon with a link

I thought I saw a thread like this one too, but honestly, I couldn't find it. If/when Clessy or anybody else comes with the link, I will copy and paste my post and then delete the thread. There is no need to have more than one thread of the same topic.

Vehicle
-Driver comfort- 10 -Rear seat comfort and space- 7, meets my expectations fine, can fold down for nitrous bottles in the future -Trunk space- 8, meets my expectations fine, have a big ass speaker cab there -Features/Amenities- 3, little disappointed here...seems like there should be more - like a screen w/ nav & other stuff...kind of out of date for 2008 it seems. -Fit and finish- 8, meets my expectations, would be 10 but want don't like some of the plastic. -Interior styling- 10, very slick and tasteful to me. -Exterior styling- 9, just a couple curves I don't like that's it Subtotal: 55/70 Powertrain -1/4 mile acceleration- 10, supercharged.... -Highway acceleration- 10, supercharged.... -Flexibility- 10, ibid. -Fuel economy- 3, supercharged...more air = more fuel -Engine noise- 10, love the sound maybe most all - hiss/whine of the SC + the low rumble of the v6 -Engine vibration- 8, can be a little annoying w/ the clutch I have in there -Engine harshness- 6, love it but the clutch sound isn't good and can take away from the pleasure sometimes. -Transmission- 10, just gnarly w/ aluminum shifter base bushings, short shifter, and an LSD & racing clutch up in there - not to mention: 6 gears! Subtotal: 67/80 Chassis -Steering feel- 10, smooth like a baby's butt -Brake feel- 8, wish I had a bbk -Handling- 9, very slick, my set up anyway. -Ride- 10, feels like a race car to me. Subtotal: 37/40 Ownership -Reliability- 5, because of my mods, always dealing w/ at least a small problem. -Parts costs- 5, because of my build and mod choices, this is 5 Subtotal: 10/20 Overall : 169 out of 210... whatever this score comes to, I LOVE the car. Love it even more supercharged w/ a fully upgraded suspension, and soon to be fully built engine. There a FEW things that I don't like about it, but there are also VERY FEW cars I'd rather have. I like Evos, I like Supras, I like STis...but wouldn't want any of those over my baby. MAYBE a tt supra w/ all upgrades....but that would be starting over, and this car was built for ME. Almost looks like a car version of the TRON light cycle to me. Looks like a car version of Kenada's bike. (see avatar pic) That is about all there is to for me. The sound of the supercharger makes me feel like mad max or the knight rider - not much else to say. This guy at Sonic bringing me my food yesterday just said: "What's happenin', Hot Rod?" and that made my day.

My three complaints are as follows:
No turning radius at all. 4-cyl is noisy as hell. Shifter is stiff and notchy. Very hard to get into gear. Everything else warms my heart.

I've had the privilege to own both GS and GT; I must admit that while I miss the insurance rates and gas mileage the GS brought, the GT is my number one pick. While the GS is an ok kind of car to have, I feel like mitsubishi really left the car in the dust with the production of the GT. The GS has a lot of potential, but for some reason it was dubbed down, in all the areas; not just the engine and tranny, but the handling also.
Living in the Northeast with all the snow really allows you to see what the car is made of. While I got into my first accident with the GS in the wonderful snow of 2009 in Oct, she did save my life and I can appreciate that. However, with this past weekend of snow here in NY and driving the GT, I feel like she handled completely different, now whether that is just a cognitive state of mind or not we shall see. But here's what I found and this is also in comparison of the Scion tC as well. GS' handling is ok, the torque for this car is great, but when comparing being stuck in snow or having to go up a snowy hill, starting from a dead stop in manual transmission, the GT out performs all of the cars in its class. It's my thought that, you can have all the hp in the world but if you don't have strong torque to pull those horses you have nothing i.e. the 2011 scion tc's. Yes, these cars have a 180 horses, but with only around 171lbs of torque, that thing won't move in snow at all...Especially with the weight distribution. While the GS is great for the horses and the torque in one small package, the handling is still very much to be desired especially with the amount of weight in the front. The great thing about the GT is that it is an overall sweet little car, the perfect package IMO. The handling is much more tighter than that of the GS, and this could also be because of the torque. I'm not trying to put down the GS' under any means, I am just noticing the differences between the two. I loved both styles of the eclipse, but to me mitsubishi made a mistake when they downgraded the engine at 162hp 162lbs of torque. With the way insurances are when it comes to the eclipse regardless of GS and GT, they should have upped the GS' hp (possibly make the GT the GS) and then created a GT of more hp and torque with a slight possible chance of AWD much like Subaru has done. Anyway, that's just my .02, I could be bias, I could not be, it all depends on the angle. |

I have not had the pleasure of driving a gt, i very much want one , auto/sportronic. I want to trade my gs in so much. But i love the ability to rep my 4g, and to get hated on. Makes me feel unique to the car world. When i tell people i have an eclipse, they think of some trash bag 2g one with a turbo. They do not expect this sexy big assed car that sounds delicious. The interior is "cheap" in materials, but sexy overall. I love the car, i love the engine, love the interior, HATE the weight. But hey, if its 800 pounds heavier than your tuner for safety, i'd gladly take the safety it adds.

I think everyone is doing a very good job reviewing their rides. You have brought very interesting opinions and insight on some aspects that I, for instance couldn't think of. Since no one has come with the link to the old thread with the same topic, I think this one can prove more valuable.

The one thing I hate is my feeling that the 4g is never photoworthy. I have looked at so many over the past 7 months that I have started to hate how this car looks compared to how it is in real life. You just can't recreate how sexy it is in a public place in a photo.
I wonder to myself how many people look or glance when I pass them and what they are thinking because I'm sure it is easy to spot and gawk at I love the car in that is comfortable, fun, and fast! Now with the suspension upgrades it is even more fun. I love that it is different from a lot of other cars on the road and you don't see many I love that my car was the top of the line 08 and it reminds me of a touring coupe. I actually remember way before i bought this car (back in 08) building it on mitsubishi's website and putting all of the options that it has, and come 3 years later I end up buying exactly what I wanted for half the price (from $32,000 to $18,000) I hate that I have the mod bug because my wallet has taken a beating this year from this car, but I love every minute of it and everything has been well worth the $ spent

The only complaint or negative was the blind spots. The thing I miss most are the seats.

^^ about the blind spots, i watched a TV show the other day and the guy had a great tip...
when you set up your mirrors, lean towards the mirror you're adjusting (driver side = head against the window, passenger = head over the center console). from there adjust your mirrors so that you can just see the ass end of your car. when you go back to your normal driving position, you wont see your car anymore, but rather who's directly next to you. no more blind spot... it works awesomely great in my truck, and pretty good in my Spyder even though i need to adjust it a bit yet... it's alittle disturbing at first though... |

Love damn near everything except the blind spots no factory lsd and the turning radius sucks, and I would have liked a few more amenities

I too owned a gs and gt. The gs was nice it was autoo. Performance was nonexistant in my opinion for a 4 cyl class. The sport tronic wsas to delayed for me. It is a very water downed version stock. I now own a gt. Love tthe looks the power annd sound. Tthe trans is ok to me its notchy when shifting gears. Could be better. Hate the turning raddius. Wish the car was a little lighter but no big deal it performs surprisingly well foor being overweight. Gas milage is ok but lets be honest we didnt buy a gt to save money at the puump. If you did boy I feel sorry for you lol. Where I live most cars are hooked up fart cans hondas so I feel like king of the road in my area. Love the looks I geet. Its def a head turner even stock im happy with hatch space for a sports car I can haull ass home from the grocery store with enough groocerys for the month. Overall I love the car. If I didnt I wouldnt of came back for another iafter myy gs. After owning the gs I had to have a gt. Oh and maintainannce on the car is easy. Im a mechanic for a living so may be easier for me than somee but its roomy for what im used to in the engine bay

I have also owned a 4G GT and a GS. I am now in the GS and I am quite pleased with it - and the fact that it is a Spyder has lots to do with that too. I am loving that it uses regular gas and the mileage has been very good. This is my first four banger since I traded my 97 Spyder in for a then new 03 GT coupe. I thought I would find the loss of power disappointing in the GS but it is adequate for the type of driving I do most of the time. I have been surprised to find that it does have enough pep when needed. Nowhere near the raw guts of the GT, but it is still a fun car to own and to drive.
My minuses would be the same as most~ Horrible turning radius (after owning four Eclipses, I'm used to it..) and the awful rear visability. But I'm getting used to that too and just use caution when backing up or changing lanes. The mirror adjustments described in an earlier post does help with that too. My previous Eclipses were very reliable cars. I never had any major problems with any of them that's why I came back and bought another. That and they were always more than just a car. |

I Love my '06 GT.
I just completed a 2,000 mile week trip. The car was GREAT. 10 Seats never gave me any issues, even after 10hours in the car. 9.5 The radio controll made it easy to find new stations. But an AUX input would be nice 10 I greatly enjoyed the Auto AC/Heater. It kept the car perfect. 10 The heated seats are to die for on those days when the leather is trying to suck every bit of heat from your hind end. 8 Road noise was OK most of the time. There are sections where the radio needed more push to overcome road noise. But overall OK. 8 Turning radious could be better. Made for some problems when missing a turn and required a U-Turn to get back on course. 7 The blind spots SUCK. Good mirror adjustment helps, but not completly. Also backing is a hit or mis. Look, Pray and Pray some more. 9 Fuel mileage could be better, but with the power of the V6 I'll live with it. 12 Looks. This car always turns heads ![]() 8 Height. Even at stock height I have to be aware of that Angle of Approach or bottom out. Also driving in Dallas sucked where EVERYONE drives a truck. At least the taller ones I could see under. 9 I wish there was more adjustment on the stearing wheel. Up and Down is fine, but those of us 6ft tall need some In and Out adjustment. 9 I wish the dash pod was backlit. I can not see the radio station, temp or anything after dark. 7 Aftermarket. To mee the price of avaiable parts is a bit high. $300 for a CAI $800 for a tuner I realize the market is limited, so the manufactures need to make their money on fewer sales, but they are a bit high.Overall I would NOT trade my '06 GT. Overall I give it a 9.5 and that would be a 10 except for the pocket hit every week a $3.70 a gallon. |

Well as it turns out I had the dash lights down so low the pod light was off. When I raised the dash lights I had a back lit dash pod. Cool. Thanks for the heads up

no worries, glad i can help...
it takes a bit to get used to it, but once you get it, it works wonders... i barely ever shoulder check anymore ![]() now i wonder why driving schools teach us to set our mirrors the wrong way to begin with... maybe they're in bed with body shops... less rear visibility, more accidents = more money?? |

my only complaints i have came with modding.. My interior squeaks due to me removing pieces. Ride is a bit rough (potholes/ speed bumps sound like im running over land mines) I code VERY often due to headers. and the cold starts kill me. CAI in an ohio winter is getting to be rough on the starting. maybe its just my battery. idk. All in all i do love this car. Do i wish it were faster like an S2000 or WRX? hell yeah. Am i complaining cause i spent less than half of those cars worth to be near done with mine? nope. Ive had my fair share of kills on the road. the car looks and feels sexy. and i still have plenty of room to grow and make it sexier.

2007 GT Auto
Sun/Sound package Bought in June 2007 with 18 miles on odometer (delivery miles, not test driven). Vehicle -Driver comfort- 8 - Seat has great grip on my ass. Very supportive during cornering. Kinda uncomfortable for longer periods of time, or maybe it's just the way I sit.. -Rear seat comfort and space - 3 - We have a rear seat? Seriously though, it's great for maybe one person to ride in the back, and they have to sit behind the passenger. And they have to be less than 5.5 feet tall. -Trunk space - 8 - Only a truck would get more points here. Rear folding seats + wide hatchback = awesome. Subwoofer does get in the way sometimes, but not really an issue. Carrying large items is a bit of hassle because of the low hatch. Have to push the item all the way near the front seats which makes loading and unloading kinda hard. -Features/Amenities- 6 - No audio aux/usb/ipod, no in-dash screen. No auto climate. Overall fairly low tech. But great RF sound system. Simple AC and radio controls. Inside center console has a constant-on power plug for cellphone or whatever, with a spot to route cable outside the console and still be able to close it. -Fit and finish- 4 - Interior plastic is very easily damaged. Area where seatbelt hits the side has tons of small marks. Backs of seats scratch easy. Small plastic 'cover' things come off too easy where rear passenger feet are. -Interior styling - 9 - I love the style of the interior, just not the materials used to make it. Gauge cluster and gauge lighting is awesome. All the surface textures match up good. -Exterior styling- 5 - Low score because of 4x4 stance. ALL dealer materials show the car with no wheel gap. Yet all models come with the gap. Aero kit should have been standard. Base 17 inch wheels kinda bland. Exhaust tip looks nice. Love the overall lines of the car. Rear end needs to be reworked so its not so large-like. Subtotal: 43/70 Powertrain -1/4 mile acceleration- 8 - Feels like too much power for not enough grip. Which is weird because the car weighs so much...and has so little HP. -Highway acceleration- 9 - Not giving a perfect score, but changing lanes or merging on highway feels solid. 80-110 mph can be done in a blink. -Flexibility - 10 - Feels smooth through all the gears. -Fuel economy- 5 - 20mpg for a 6 cyl is below par for a 2007. Score would be even lower when comparing with modern cars. -Engine noise- 8 - To each his/her own in this category...I think it sounds awesome. I don't like ricey sounds, prefer the rumble of power. Stock GT sounds very solid. -Engine vibration- 10 - No complaints. -Engine harshness- 7 - Acts scary near redline. Otherwise fairly smooth. -Transmission- 8 - Auto feels smooth. Can predict or force gear changes by subtle blips on throttle. Subtotal: 65/80 Chassis -Steering feel- 5- Steering it self is fairly tight, but turning radius is horrendous. Good luck doing u-turns. -Brake feel- 8 - Some wobble when braking from high speeds. Both on stock rotors/pads and on slotted/ceramic ones. Otherwise very responsive and good. -Handling- 7- Cornering seems ok, as long as it's not a sharp corner... -Ride- 6- Rough ride for large sidewall. Kinda expected for this kind of car. Subtotal: 26/40 Ownership -Reliability- 9- No qualms here. Very few problems in it's first 5 years of life. No major break downs and no major problems. All maintenance up to date. Had brakes replaced within first 2 months of having car because of a TSB. -Parts costs - 5* - Only two inquiries for part prices from me. One was for side mirror, other for aero kit. Both were way over priced. Subtotal: 14/20 Grand total: 148/210 |

thanks for the review ! the only thing i'm surprised to read is your 1/4 mile... "so much weight with so little HP"?? really, 263hp is "so little"? granted it's not a GT500, but i wouldnt say the GT lacks power !!! |

Cons:
Who the hell decided to put the engine in there sideways and front wheel drive...forming a lynch mob...sign up. Turning radius...same as my Dodge Durango! Hard to work on yourself....especially diagnosing an issue. Too little interior storage. ...but my biggest beef....the sorry dealerships associated with it. Pros: The car is safe for a coupe. Look at the pictures we have in the forum of the wrecks that people have walked away from! The car is sexy and can be made very fast. Buying one used one can get into a good performance ride for fairly cheap. The car lead me to this forum where I have made many friends and have learned so much. Do not think for a minute though that I would sell or trade my baby! She ranks #2 in my life only surpassed by my dog (and that depends on which day you actually ask)
