Question GS for GT?

idk where else i would post this, if there is another place, someone please move it for me. but i was wondering...you think if i took my car, which is a GS, custom paint job, rims, engin work, the whole 9 yards (goes for about 13,500) ANY dealership would trade it car for car, GS for a GT? or even if i could just trade it and pay like 2 grand more if the GT is that much more? i love my car to death...but having more power is really really what i want...im sick of having a slow ass car that just looks cool. also, if i did this, would i have to take out a second loan for the gt and have to pay two full carpayments? i only owe about 7 grand on my gs right now as it stands, so if i trade it for the GT and i have to pay the 2,000 extra, would i just be paying 9 grand total? (im sorry if im confusing eveyone im just kinda talkin out loud. im at work and thought i would ask you guys. )

I thought about doing this but the dealership won't give you much. The highest offer I got was $10,000 trade in for my car (with 35,000 miles) and that was if I bought an 08 GT with no miles on it. Most places won't offer you over $8,000. You would also have to pay sales tax on the new car. If you love your car I say stick with it. A turbo package is coming out for our car in the next 6 months that will allow us to get 251 whp.

I understand that but you have always wanted the cobra. He stated above that he loved his car and wanted advice. I just threw my .02 in.

you owe 7
say the dealer gives you 9 and wants 12 for a GT
you're left with a total overall loan of (7-9+12) = 10
in other words, you give up your GS, the dealer gives you 9. you go and pay the bank back 7. then you go back to the dealer and you have to give him 12. you have 2 in your pocket (9-7), but you still need a loan / cash for 10.
i think... that's not including taxes and crap, but you get the idea...

Think about the same thing all the time, except my replacement would be an STi. Honestly bud, if you really want to make out good, just pay your car off first.

For example, I owe 9k on my eclipse. Sell it now for 10k tops and I'm left (after paying the loan off) with 1k for a down payment, which is sub-par.

But, if I hold on to my car until it's paid off, sell it 3 years from now for 6-8k , then ill have that much for a down payment.

Feel what I'm gettin at?

look at the PSI Tuning group buy. They are going to be testing the eclipse with the lancer kit this winter. I kinda guessed on the release date so it could be sooner or could be a little later.

Look into this man. go hit up some of the guys in the FI section for the GS. They can give you some insight into what all is entailed in a turbo setup. Yes GTs are faster but It would be hard to part with your car, its sexy, I wish mine looked that good

Aren't you the one whose father wouldnt let you keep the header on your car? If so hows he gonna let you throw a turbo on there?

Obviously it's a better idea to go turbo then to try and trade up for the gt. Especially like how everyone is talking about increased insurance rates and such. All and all having a gst is way more bad ass.my .02

Muscles is the insurance that much more on a GT??? I have a GT Spyder and I'm 27 and a single male with no tickets in the last 3 years and my insurance is only 414 every six months and that is not state minimum insurance. We both know South Carolina is a ripoff when it comes to insurance.

^look at your age. Once you hit 25 your insurance drops. I believe the OP is under 25 so yes his insurance will be higher. The younger he is the higher it will go too.

wouldn't you get more selling private anyway? or is it the hassle between selling and buying why you would go to a dealership?

Car dealers work like this: They can move the numbers around any way they want, for example, you get a higher value for your trade in, this typically means you are paying to much for the car you are buying. In the end, it all comes out to a certain amount of profit for the dealer.

you are ALWAYS better off selling your car private party and not trading it in

if you trade it in, negotiate the sale price of the GT first, agree on the lowest / best deal, THEN and only then, throw the trade-in value in the mix... otherwise yes, the dealer will rape you on one end or the other...

I had a nissan Altima with the 3.5L and it said "premium recommended for maximum performance". basically the car would supposedly advance the timing with better gas, giving slight performance increase, but it ran perfectly fine on regular also

I assumed the eclipse was the same, but i guess not

its officially rated 3 mpg less in city driving, but its my understanding, in real life, its actually closer to 5 mpg less.

all city i get about 250-280 a tank. all highway, really quiet driving, i'd get 450... realistically i'll get 320-350 on the highway, cruising at 80-90 mph...
