Few Questions From A First Time Eclipse Owner
So as of today I purchesed an 07 Eclipse GT with premium package.
This is also the first import car I've ever owned. So alot of it is new to me. While thankfully I was able to find some of the answers I was seeking on here, still had some questions . There for hopefully someone here will be kind enough to point me to the correct threads or give me the info. Might as well get started. First off What size throttle body is on it stock? What size would you recommend? What are the inlets an outlets on the cat's an mufflers? Any suggestions on mas air flow sensors ? What should I know about sway bars, in regards to buying, installation, an all? Does my 6 disc changer have a MP3 player jack or anything in the back? I know there's none of the front. But I was unsure. |

I would start using the search bar for each of those because most of them has at least a few threads on them. Autocityimports has sway bars if you want to check that out. The MP3 player jack can be bought and its an easy install, again if you search for it, it will be pretty easy to find. WTTC good luck with the car!

.Sway Bars: I have yet to install any (I plan to down the road at some point) but, in regards to buying them you can find a lot of the aftermarket stuff for the 4G, if not the majority of it here: Auto City Imports : Sport Compact Auto & Import Performance Superstore Another good site to check out is: Road /// Race Engineering They have a lot of good performance stuff such as headers, etc. As for the stock disc changer, I believe that it has a port in the back for a MP3 cable - I remember seeing a thread around here somewhere that had a link to the exact cable that you needed. I wish I could find it. |

Thanks guys.
I did some searching, but just wasn't able to find the small details I needed on those topics. I am pretty medicated tonight, so who knows I may have missed them. I'll be sure to check out those recommended sites. I use summit racing for alot of this stuff. But until now I only had American muscle cars. So while some things are the same, some things are not, so navagating around summit was a little more of a challenge on this for me. oh an I forgot to ask, what gears does the auto trans have? I was told by the dealer it has a feature where you can have it fully automatic or part manual . If so how the heck does that work? Thanks |

Stock piping on a gs is 2.25 all the way back but I think on the gt it's 2.5!
Magna flow mufflers sound great on these cars I would delete your third cat and resonator though while your down there and upgrade to stainless steel piping from your car to which ever muffler you choose! But don't go over 2.5 unless your goin fi bc you'll loose torque! Throttle body on gt is two mm bigger than a gs if I'm not mistaken but you would have no problem finding that! Maf meters on these cars aren't like muscle we don't have anything after market and your dealer is talking about the sport tronic it allows you to control your shift points in an auto matic car with out a clutch but not as good as a manual

All that I know (because I own a 6spd) is that it's a feature called Sportronic. Other than that, the auto guys are gonna need to step in and answer it
hahaedit: dsm's got it covered! |

How does one control the shift points?
Any suggestions when it comes to low priced high flow cats? I wish Illinois didn't require catalytic converters. While I could ignore that fact I decided to just go with a high flow instead just to be safe. I talked with a guy a while back that claimed he had a Dynomax muffler on his Eclipse GT. But the company tells me there isn't one. Any clue which it is? Been a fan of Dynomax an their other comany thrush for years. Due to great qulity low prices. While I've mostly used flow master on previous cars, I'm not a fan of the tone of them on eclipses an magnaflow to me is over priced (no offense intended) , plus the guy that I talked to had by far the best sounding import i've ever seen. He also recommended anyone that gets one replace the stock radiator & fans. Thoughts anyone? Only down side I seen to doing the aux cable is the place where the cable comes out of. Be nice if there was a good location on the dash that the MP3 player could just mount in an hook up. oh well. Not a huge deal, since it's a six disc changer. |

You can always just get a single or Double DIN head unit that has the port on the outside. Mines a Pioneer Touchscreen w/ Pandora and all that. Was only 320 new on eBay (with a warranty) as compared to 500 on Pioneer's site. If you aren't looking to spend that much you can pick up a cheap single with an aux port for like $80 bucks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll likely just stick with the stock unit for now.
Because it's not a huge deal to have a MP3 player. Plus who knows maybe as time go's by i'll come up with a idea of how to mount one or something. my main focus will be performance an increased Gas Mileage . Debating between a short cold air intake or a longer one. leaning towards the short ram one. Anyone tried any performance chips ? My brother used a tuner on his mustang an it made a large difference. A few company's claim the chips will do just as good or better on an eclipse . Found one on ebay that gives a full refund an even shipping costs an 60 days to decide if one likes it. So went a head an got one for the heck of it. Was only $29 but from the sellers feedback, and with a guarantee like that figured what the heck might as well try it. Normally low priced things like that I've seen do little or nothing. But this thing sounds good.. Thankfully because I bought the car when I did it left me with a few extra bucks to spend. So going to try an get a performance muffler, and the cold air intake and of course got the chip. Plus if I can find one for it an the price is right a high flow cat. I'd like to get at least the muffler by this weekend. But we will see. I'm also wanting to do a little cosmetic customizing , with simple things like wheel caps, or license plate frames. Though so far haven't found any I like lol. Last edited by Animefreak1983; December 7th, 2011 at 12:03 AM. |

I thought the same thing. But after reading the listing, the feedback, an showing it to several other people who thought it sounded worth trying. Decided to take the plunge lol.

im not sure of any company that does a direct swap for high flow cats. you can get a universal high flow put on in place of the factory one. as said before those performance chips are a waste of money all they are is a over priced resistor. i dont know of any off the shelf performance radiator, but you can get slim fans that pull more air. as for the sporttronic what it does is allow the driver to drive the car like a manual with out a clutch. all you do is move it over from drive and when you want to shift up a gear you push the gear selector forward and down to go down a gear. o i can tell you that installing the front sway bar is a real bitch.

Thanks for the info.
I'd normally agree the cheap chips are crap. I've seen tons of them not work. But when they have over a thousand postive feed back an like 10 negative an such a guarantee figured worth a shot. I'd suspect the towing ablity would be due to torque who knows. Anyways I'm going to stop by a couple auto parts stores an just see what they offer in some of the parts i'm wanting too. I really can't help but wonder why few direct fit parts seem to be out there for these cars. Will let ya know what I find out, an how all gos. If the things a scam no big deal, got ebay an paypal behind me and the sellers word. So not a big deal. |

a lot of people just think that those chips add horsepower. i highly doubt any one has done a before and after dyno test to prove that they have gained power.

Just noticed, they use the exact same list on all of their setups no for each of the vehicles so if by chance any of it's true, than that's why some aspects don't fit.

One thing I forgot to ask.
I know some cars allow you to change the colors that the gages an stero lights are. Am I able to do this on my Eclipse ? Flipped threw the book an seen nothing about it, so I assume not. But still was curious especially since the color doesn't seem fitting with the outside color an interior . |

for pre 09 gt's the stock size is 2.38
09 models gained dual exhaust and exhaust size went up to 2.5

way too many questions at once
![]() long story short, when you get that chip, do everybody a favor: take a sledgehammer, destroy it, and throw it in the garbage... its the safet thing you could do for your reputation and for your engine ![]() everything else has been covered i believe... and no, you cant change the interior lights color, unless you get new leds (look up zedawg here) |

Which GT Premium did you get? Is it the Automatic transmission or the Manual? This does make a huge difference in a few things on the car. The throttle body on the GT I believe is 87.5mm stock. I could be wrong, if I am, someone please correct me. You can have the throttle body ported by Pro Flow. Just google "Pro Flow Throttle Bodies" and they charge around 200-250$. As far as I know it's 2.5 inch piping on the GT all the way back. The inlets and outlets of the cats shouldn't matter much unless you need to smog your car for any reason. Just remove the cats, they're sucking power down anyways. We currently have no option for an aftermarket mass air flow sensor, and probably never will. However we do have a couple options for changing the output signal from the MAF to trick the ECU. These are the AEM F/IC, I believe the BRATT box, and there is also the option now of a reflash through Hackish. There are a couple options for rear sway bars I know of. That's Progress and Eibach. Progress rear sway is about 100 bucks and the Eibach one is about 120-130. Rear sway bar is a real game changer for this car as far as handling. I'd recommend it right away. As far as the front swaybar goes, Eibach is the only one I know of. I also know that you need to drop the front subframe and realign the car after doing it. Last person I know that did it, it took him about 9 hours of working under there to get the damn thing out and the new one in. It's quite a painful process if you don't have a lift and a professional shop to do it in. The upper strut bar is a great buy as well. The stock one is nice, but aftermarket ones are built a little better and hold a little stronger. The ones I know of are made by Carbing, Tanabe, and Cusco. There are probably others, but I'd also recommend doing the Tanabe or Carbing under brace bar. As far as the MP3 thing goes, I seen it was answered above, but you can also go to Mitsubishi and buy the optional I-pod cable for cars with the Rockford Fosgate system. Lastly, if you have any questions, always use the Search function on the toolbar at the top of the page. It will avoid any kind of flaming from the disgruntled members that tire of answering the same questions 5000 times. Welcome to the club! |

the GT TB is 67mm Will, not 87
OP - search could have told you that ![]() Piping on the 07 GT is 2.38", but any 2.5" muffler / resonator / hi-flow cat will work and as Will said, the rear sway bar by Progress is cheap, easy to install, and makes a world of difference even on otherwise stock suspension... i'd say you can easily take a highway ramp at 10-15mph more than without it... |

If you know how to solder correctly, then you can change the lights in the dash. But til then, no.

I did the front sway bar in my back yard...took most of a day...not much fun at all. I still think it was worth doing mainly just to encourage others to try so I can here them whine
![]() I do have a ramp I drive my car out on so I can access the underside easier and used a jack to lower the subframe but it really wasn't necessary....it can only drop but so much...you really need the jack to push it back up and hold it while you get the bolts in. If you had someone helping most likely wouldn't need it then.

Thanks. All the info have been very helpful. Got a few things ordered, some performance some cosmetic .
I'm debating on what muffler to get. But leaning towards Flowtech Afterburner Muffler. Also found a good deal on a aluminum strut tower bar for like 33 bucks. Do you think would be worth getting? Has anyone ever did the light up emblems ? If so how hard is it to run the wire an all to do it? Thanks |

at $33 it's either utter junk, or a hell of a deal...the GT has a stock one, so make sure the one you are looking at is as good if not better, and that it will fit !!
Light-up emblems, there was a thread on that... check the "find something on ebay" thread, and it's in there, i'd say 2-3 pages back from the end now... Chris05 has them. |
