Question Looking to trade my car for a 4g GT. Mileage question

Hello there.

I'm looking to trade my 2006 4g GS for a 2007 4g GT. My main concern, among other things, is mileage and maintenance. Mine has over 140000 miles and I have a few more thousand miles pending due to work, so I'm looking to tarde for a fewer miled GT.

The GT's current owner told me that he had replaced the speedometer assembly (for a used one bought at a salvage yard) after having problems with the tachometer. The mileage display on his GT reads around 76000 miles.

My question: changing the speedometer assembly changes the mileage display? Does mileage data gets stored on the cluster or on the ECU? Anyone has replaced this part before?

Thanks!

i think it's stored on the gauge

edit: i stand corrected

"yes you can change digital odo you just need the right tools and know how to do it. Yes the odo readings are stored on both the odometer itself and ecu. Dealers have special codes that will be able to pull the readings out of the ecu, to make sure no one has messed with the odometer readings.

In US its illegal to change the odo readings"

Great! I'll need to double check with the seller then. Do you know if the odometer keeps running after replacing it, without any additional programming or something?

Thanks a lot, guys!
