Hidden Panel In Center Console ?

So I was getting some CD's out of my center console last night, an noticed a panel that kinda looks like it opens. While I didn't have any way of getting a hold of it, I was curious if it is indeed one.
So thought I'd ask, an show you guys pictures.

If you look at the left side where the bottom meets the side of the console you see a small cut out part that looks like a way to open it.

i've seen this down there for awhile now, i always mean to open it and peek, but never have.

I think fearlezz is right that its for the e-break cables to tighten them up.

I had planned on trying to get it open today. But we got hit with a not so nice snow storm.

I found about 2 bucks in change under the seats from the previous owner lol.

That panel is how i ran the Aux audio cable from the head unit to console. I just pulled up the panel, drilled a little hole in the corner, ran the cable through, and popped it back down.

You also have to remove this to access screws if you go with a short-throw. (manual people)

so THAT'S where the e-brake adjustment is !!! i read a thread quickly one day, and it said "behind the glove box", or so i thought... and while i never checked, i was like "why is the e-brake cable way over there, wtf??" now it all makes sense, doh !
i might actually try that tomorrow, since it's supposed to be our last "warm" day for a while...

I just wish the outlet inside the box was like the one on the dash where it shuts it's self off when you turn the car off. Because if it was I'd consider running into it an putting a second one in.

do you have a 12V outlet in there? i didnt think any Eclipse's came with it stock, i could be wrong... if you got your car used and the previous owner did that, he may have messed it up..

Original owner, mine has the 12 volt non-switched outlet in there as well. Personally i love that it is non-switched, that way i can leave my phone/tablet/notebook/camera/whatever on charge while im grocery shopping or what-have-you.
