Reason why you WOULD/ARE selling your 4g Eclipse...

So I'm looking to buy me a 4g Eclipse in a couple of months hopefully. and I was wanting to know the BAD'S of these things. Just straight up, and blunt. I will be going for the Manual GT, because I've already read on here that the power between GS and GT is really big and noticeable, and the MPG are not so different...

Yeah I know:
*Heavy FWD
*not a gas saver
*big blind spots
*poor resale value
*big torque steer
*bad turning radius

but give me more in depth everyday living BAD'S. BAD'S that a car reviewer wouldn't mention because they don't have to live with these cars everyday. Also of any recalls or things that are just INFAMOUS for going bad at a certain time would be very helpful. Just want to know what I'm getting myself into before I bite the bullet.

Here are (2) that I found at a beautiful price and with decent mileage....

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/ctd/2781266000.html

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/ctd/2816977543.html

this particular COLOR of 4g I've found much cheaper than all the others for some unknown reason.... is there something wrong with these? poor paint that is known to fade prematurely or something?

my main complaint is bad noise...alot of them from modded parts such as my worn springs and rattling exhaust but those can be avoided...things such as trunk rattle...sub rattle...side speaker rattle...and my current main hate: drivers seat squeak!!! ...other than that i can hear my fuel settling if i come to speed bump or but it in park and it sloshes back and forth violently for some reason...i hate negative noise as u can tell...

I probably shouldn't comment on this post... I'm up to my 8th eclipse, even though the negatives bit me in the ass a few times.

But good tips would be: Don't downgrade from a v8 to a 4banger like I did originally with my 1st 4g Then upgrade from the 4banner back to a v8 a year later lol. then back down to a v6 4g 3 years following that.

Oh ok this is good to know because I've heard of real bad road noise that gets through, but didn't know so much noise came from the car itself. lol I've heard about the squeeky seats before, but don't remember if it was you complaining about them. aftermarket bucket seats should fix that right up.

It's not that I'm being picky, its just its bad enough I'm shooting for a car with barley decent gas mileage even though I'm going to be on a very slim budget (but the HP should make up for the MPG I'm sure). Just want to make sure I won't get a blown engine or bad tranny while I'm still paying it off(hopfully not, I don't even plan to mod it at all for this reason).

California prices seem to be high on 4g's, so you may want to really look around for prices. I got my 2008 fully loaded (black leather, sunroof, rockford fosgate system, 6speed manual, SE package, heated seats, etc) eclipse GT SE with 33k miles on it a couple weeks ago for $14,914 from dealer and its a certified 1 owner with no accidents.

lol wow 8 Eclipses??? this would only be my 4th, but my others were DSMs so this would be like a completely different car.

should I ask?? lol what was your V8 and why all the switching around? sounds like a lot of $$$

but my prioritys are: Reliable, 4 seater, Gas Efficient, Long Lasting Good looks, THEN Power

my first V8 was a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Rumble Bee 2WD, my 2nd V8 was a 2010 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4WD. Payment & Gas was the reason I got rid of my Tundra, it was costing a 4 digit amount a month to keep & maintain and I lost purpose of owning it when I moved.

I'm jealous of you right now, that sounds really good for an SE package, those are sexy! hmm It would have to be a dealer that can finance me ofcourse. and I'm looking all up and down California for a great deal. Do think dealers finance cross-states?

you can overcome the blind spots by adjusting your mirrors properly.
Road noise in the coupe is way less worse than the Spyder, and i live with my Spyder, no problem... city, hwy trips, winter, it does it all...

the GT 6 speed is a great performer for its class and will surprise more cars than you would think... all the issues I had came from either a dumb-ass POS dealer, or aftermarket parts, or faulty install (by me )

go for it !

EDIT: to answer your question, the only reason i would sell (or think of selling) my Spyder, is if I could find a RWD car that looks as sexy, for the same price... and even then, i'd take such a hit that i'd probably keep it... or if I really, really, really, needed the money... but even if the budget was real tight in '09, i managed to keep it

Yeah, I ended up with an SE again, I got burned really bad with trade in value and paid out the wazoo when I got rid of my 2008 eclipse GS SE in 2009 for the tundra so it was like I never got rid of that car getting this one lol for the price I paid for this. Anyways, Yes you can finance out of state in the US, you may need to discuss about how they handle out of state plates, if they only give temp tags for 15 days that require you to pay taxes in your state out of pocket or if they send in the tax money paid on financing to your state.

I would not sell mine. I love my 4g the down side for me is the after market is limited I have everything. But the throttle body.

But your not moding it so not that big a deal for you. I'd get a intake and axle back with lowering springs atlest. You'll be happy with the car.

What kind of dsms do you have I see there 2gs.

actually I've had (1) GS, and (2) GSTs (black=GST grey=GS). but I've never had the luck of owning a GSX.... I don't think I'd ever let that one go if that was the case

but yeah so far things are looking good for 4g

I have a gsx. But she is not anything to brag about at the moment. All I have for her is a 3586r turbo from fp with a 82 housing. And really that's it bro. She is a shell HAHA. One day she will be a monster though. One day.

adamcky90 will become famous soon enough
The only problem I have/had with my GS is that it is too slow for my liking and waayyy too heavy, its got spunk especially when it is nice and cold out. I have won and lost my share of races in it, but.. definitely go with the GT for sure, I wish I would have. But I had no choice to get this car because of a time issue, I had 1 day to find a car or I had no ride to work anymore, and my 4G was a complete impulse buy, and I'm surprised I was able to finance it. I wish I would have gotten a WRX, which is what I think I am trading my GS in on when my tax return arrives. I need boost/AWD hahaha. They are definitely great cars, the look great and the GT's are pretty fast. I have only ever had to do normal maintenance on my GS, brakes, tires ect..

So far, the car has done everything I had hoped. It is reliable. It looks good. Gas mileage isn't too hateful. Fun to mod.

Check, check,check, and check.

HOMESLICE has a spectacular aura about
DEF a good looker. the only downside to mine is the engine vibration rattles something inside the cabin when in neutral sitting at a stop light. when its driving the sound goes away. its getting worse too which sucks. Also the map light shorts out on the auto dim mirror. other than that the car drives great and has lots of power. It surprises anyone that rides with me

Wow I hope your not the one that started modding it lol you need to upgrade several things before you jump into a huge turbo!!! I'd start with the exhaust (turbo-back, manifold), then air intake(turbo intake, intercooler piping, intercooler core, even manifold if need be), and Finally fuel(fuel regulator, bigger fuel pump, bigger fuel injectors, and fuel management system). then your ready for the big ass turbo and tune

I do thoroughly agree with the HORRIBLE turning radius. Jesus, no such thing as a u-turn.

You have to u-turn at 25mph, with a little help from the handbrake. Lancers (base or Evo) have no turning radius either. I don't think anybody at Mitsubishi lives on a cul-de-sac or has ever gotten lost looking for a service station.

dogiebitt will become famous soon enough
I'm trading mine for a 2013 Mustang soon.

Reasons:
Bad MPG - 19-20 mpg is not acceptable when the 412hp V8 mustang does the same.
Limited Aftermarket = more expensive
FWD - personal choice here, just want a RWD car now that I've had a FWD.
Auto - regret not buying manual. Going to with the mustang.

Wow dogiebitt, you get crappy mileage with the auto, I've seen as high as 29mpg with my manual gt. I filled up yesterday and it said 27 mpg. It's a step up for me, my tundra was giving me 11-14 mpg lol.

the new Stang is definitely your best bang-for-the-buck out there right now... but man, you see dozens of them everyday, everywhere...

I would like to see some one post a video of them trying to make a U-turn and trying to parallel park and things like that haha

yeah I was surprised to see that the automatics actually get better MPG than the Manuals. atleast according to the window stickers.

sold mine and bought a g35 because RWD and the aftermarket support on a 4g is little to none.
AND.... how do you not like the spool of a turbo

G's and Z's are great. they're just too expensive for some one like me. The eclipse is the better bang for buck as far as year, miles, and gas mileage go.... unless you plan to resale soon ofcourse cause of the Eclipses horrible resale value. for what I can get a manual 03 G35 with 150k miles on it, I can also get an 06 GT manual with like 75k miles on it.

Overall the Eclipse is just the better car for some one broke whos not looking to turn it into a track car lol

and I LOVE boost! and DSMs! just needing something more reliable and up to date with all the functions working know what I mean? although if the right GSX happens to come along, who knows; my addiction might just get the better of me lol

this particular COLOR of 4g I've found much cheaper than all the others for some unknown reason.... is there something wrong with these? poor paint that is known to fade prematurely or something?
No, the black is a sexy color, but he black paint SUCKS. There is even a recall on it for some people that qualify. My main advice is get a GT if you give a shit about performance at all. Just do it and you will be happy with it. Most people with a GS kinda secretly or openly wish it was a GT.

Why was there a recall?

I have a GS and openly say I wish I got the GT. The GS does have some pep to it. Especially after you drive around the new Outlander Sport for awhile. Now that thing is slow.

When I bought the car I chose to go with the Spyder GS over the GT coupe. They were the same price.

Mine is a black 08 and has been in the elements the whole time. I havent had any paint issues besides some paint missing on the front bumper when the wife crashed into the front of the house.

And then some paint missing on the back bumper because someone gave the car a love tap when I was at school. But quality wise the paint has held up pretty well
