changing taillight bulbs from stock to blood red
i changed the marker bulbs on my old eclips with ease from while bulbs to red because there was only 1 bolt on the marker lights. but on my 4G it seems a bit more complitated to change the bulbs behind the red reflectors in the tail lights. it looks like i have to take the bumber off to remove the light assembly to change the bulbs and that seems like a lot of work for little reward. i talked to my buddy at the Mitsu Service department and he said i might be able to just remove the splash guard in the wheel well and replace the bulbs that way. any ideas are welcome i just don't want to make a simple swap take hours.

ok so here is the deal, hate the stock white bulbs and want to change to red bulbs. i had no luck at the parts store trying to order "red glass" bulbs, not red painted glass bulbs. then they tried to sell me some LED bulbs, but said i would have to buy a resistor set to go with them because of the electrical systems in our 4G's. so i decided to do some research. the sockets take a 168 12V bulb. well i have found some LED's that claim they are 12V bulbs that can replace 168's. but i have also seen that 7440s are 12V and are nice and bright but don't know if i can put 7440 bulbs in my markers. the bulbs below are the ones i am currently looking at, if you have any other options please let me know. thanks

First your friend machaniv dont know what he is talking about. You dont need to remove bumper nore splash guards. And you dont need any resistors. Led works fine. I dont know why you want to change side markers because they look red even bulbs are white because of little red plastic covering the bulbs.

Boomko is correct. You don't need to remove your bumper or splash guard. Even if you did you still wouldn't be able to get to the taillight. Unclip the flap in the hatch area and unscrew the nut. Unscrew bolt in end and pop it out. To easy.

Heres a little warning. Once you pop the light out, a clip breaks and they wont fit the same again. And then the paint on my got scratched off from taking the light out. It sucked...

Yeah you have to take the whole assembly out to replace any of the bulbs. When I bought my car the side marker bulb was burned out. I just opened the trunk and moved the carpet shit and plastic around my trunk rim and took the bolts out and the whole taillight came off. Wasn't hard and never scratched my car. I'm sure it's different for my Spyder than it is in the coupes.

thanks for the feedback guys, and my friend at the service department is not a mechanic. and he never said i would hvae to take the spash guards and such off he said it was a possibility, but i did some experimenting and found out the real way to do it. i just took out the punch clips and removed the small bit of trim and took the 2 bolts out. and that little bit of red plastic is not dark enough for me. so i am going for red bulbs. and i did some thinking on the resistor part i think is only for turn signals not the marker light. even thought the marker lights do not flash are you sure the voltage will be high enough that it will not register the bulb as burnt out? as some of the LED 168's that i have looked at only pull 9 V and some pull 12. let me know what you find out and i will document what i find as well. thanks again.
