Brilliant! How is your plasti dip holding up? I had that same idea with red (I hope it matches up close to the Pure Red paint color my car came with stock). That way I can change it up later. Although I planned on painting the big trim piece that stretches across the dash, around the gauges and the trim that you dipped.

Just the start. All done with plasti-dip and glossifier. Took about 4 hours total, from disassembly to finished.

Edit: sorry for the crappy pics, there's a monsoon outside lol

Quick update: finished my interior. Plasti-Dip with glossifier. If it lasts, I won't redo it. If it doesn't, I'll tear it out and paint it permanently. Because I'm LOVIN this.

Anyone know of any dope mods for your stock mats, or any aftermarket ones that might compliment the look? I'm also on the look out for a good shift boot/knob for an AT and the handbrake.

I totally dig the color gimmick, however, I personally think the painted interior looks really tacky (material wise). Like a toy car. If I do my interior it'll be with colored vinyl just to eliminate that factor. Looks good, though, guys.

what you could do is remove the piece from the car, take some materials such as suede, and use adhesive to attach it to the trim. vinyl is hard to do with trim unless you remove it from the car, but you could definitely give it a try. it can be done

Oh, and thank you!

Yeah, that 2-tone looks is definitely sexy as hell. Im going to be doing brushed aluminum vinyl soon on some of my pieces. It'll probably peel up though in the FL heat.

I used carbon fiber vinyl on my 1998 Eclipse, and in the 110+ Vegas heat, it never peeled up (at least, not until I wrecked her almost 2 years afterwards). Vinyl works rather well even in hot weather. But man... it is such a pain in the @$$ to apply to interior pieces unless you remove them from the car.

the best part about Plasti Dip is it only takes about 10 minutes between coats. I did about 4-6 coats of color and two coats of glossifier. With plasti dip, its always best to go heavier so it's easier to peel off if you ever need to.

Does it look rubbery IRL like it does in the picture? My personal experience with plastidip is that it looks like flat paint but has a slight vinyl-like texture to it. In all the photos I see where its thick it makes me curious how it feels. I might consider doing this if a non-gloss color looks more stock than the "plastic" look.

edit: I think Gunmetal would look sweet on silver. I think Ill order a can on payday and try it on the bumper bar, around the fogs, mirrors, and some test spots in the interior.

UPDATE! DO NOT SPRAY PLASTI-DIP ON YOUR INTERIOR!!!!

I know that sounded super serious, like I was warning you about something.

THAT'S BECAUSE I AM!

I just spent ALL DAY cleaning my interior back to stock because the plasti-dip didn't adhere to the soft-touch vinyl stuff on the dash and doors. I was driving last night, and I brushed my hand against the side of the door... and it peeled off like it was wet tissue paper!

AND THE WORST PART: it lightly stained the vinyl!

I was able to get most of the red off, you can barely tell... but it took me HOURS of scrubbing, and disassembling my entire interior, to get it back to stock.

SOOOOOO

BEFORE

After

Looks much better in person. This time I did it the right way; plastic primer, 4 coats (30 min apart) of color-matched Mitsu Pure Red, and 3 coats of urethane clear coat. Dried for 8 hours and replaced. Took me all day, but looks tremendously better. Glad it worked out this way in the end.

Lesson: NEVER spray plasti dip on any porous surface... EVER!

Did you clean the surface with soap and water before putting the dip on? If not maybe the dye bonded with any protectant left on the surface.

I tried to... whenever I paint something, I use bug and tar remover (or wax remover, when necessary), and then windex. I was afraid the b&t might damage the vinyl, so I scrubbed it with windex only. Still, whatever happened to it, when I was peeling it off, it didn't feel like it had fully dried. It was very odd. It felt almost like taffy... luckily for me, I was able to get most of the stain off. You can barely tell, and only if you know what to look for.
