Guitar Thread
Calling all guitar players. I thought we needed a thread we could discuss guitar related topics. Things like Weapon of Choice, Axe's you would like to wield, Technique's (picking-strumming). Certain Songs, Chords How to play them What strings you prefer, What gives you the best tone. So on and so forth of course without flaming who cares if someone plays a First Act.
The reason I started this is because I just learned Everyday by Buddy Holly, and realized my damn G String won't stay in tune. So I guess its time for new strings. I usually use DR Zebra's Medium, or DM Blue Steel Heavy. Wondered if anyone else had any suggestions, and how they sound.

well i used to get Ernie ball .42-.10 gauge but they tarnished like a mo fo. as of 4 months ago (about a pack every month and a half) ive been onto D'Addario .47-.13 gauge. i love them and the thicker gauge gives it a perfect tune for metal

On my Acoustic/Electric I have been using DR Zebra's. Everything here in Hawaii tarnishes bad quickly. I tried Alchemy's on my Acoustic but did not like the tone at all

How does it sound I have always used Ibanez, or Washburn so I am kinda biased towards them I really love the deep tone on a Washburn

well its a metal guitar. and let me just say it lives to its name. granted you need a decent amp to make anything sound worthwhile. but it comes with EMG 81-85 Pickups and its a very deep, crunchy tone and can be distorted how ever you please. like i said i love and swear by it. ill get a video.
YouTube - "Karma (new song)" - Parkway Drive guitar cover thats the exact guitar just red. but kinda gives you an idea. i usually play with a bit more idk thickness? in the distortion. more bass and not as much of a twangy sound. |

Its funny you say that cause I love Washburn and they are also known for Metal lol.
Dimebag, Scott Ian, Disturbed, and a lot of others use em. Plus they are made in Chicago where I'm from. Learn any good songs lately All I learned lately are cheesy Acoustic that make the ladies wanna listen haha For the most part I actually prefer to write and play my own music over trying to memorize someone else's chord changes and strumming pattern

yeah my friends just sucks. plays like shit. sounds like shit... idk what model this is i forgot but this is what i wanted before the hellraiser this is that guy i was talking about as well lol he jams
YouTube - KillrBuckeye - The Rising (original metal song, instrumental) and not really. A bullet song and im getting more and more amon amarth down (heavier metal) and trying to get better but i think im at my end here. i cant seem to get better no matter how hard i practice |

same. i want to sing to the tone of the note im playing. or if im screaming then i scream and forget what comes next. unless its an easy ass song that ive played 12081209743192037 times. like Runes to my memory by Amon Amarth omg. ha i can probably play bass while playing guitar and screaming. ive played it soo many times and all you need is to be quick on picking.

WOW!! a guitar thread, what a concept!! I've been play about twenty-years now but that don't mean shit unless you dedicate yourself to playing 8+ hours a day
, so more or less, i haven't been holding up my end of the bargain!!When it comes to strings, I'm Elixir all the way, both for my acoustic's and electric guitars. Yeah, they're $16.00 a set but you get what you pay for, the polyweb coating make them last a lot longer then any other strings I've used before. When I was palying 6+ hours a day, I could get 3 to 4 weeks out of a set of strings, I've slacked down on my playing so I get about 6 months of use from them now. Normally after the third day of use they stay in-tune unless there is a major weather change.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with the flute, I have two Native American flutes I love to play and relax/meditate with. I have one in the Key of G and the other is in the Key of Am. I'm really amazed how easy they are to learn how to play. Excellent tool at the campfire, and not as a fire-poker, or kindling.

So does anyone have any musical theory in their arsenal, read/write music, or TABS read/write?
And what type/s of music do you like to play? I'm open to just about any type music, but 60's-90's mostly rock.

AW man!!! Cool thread! I started playing when I was 15, 22 years ago! Haven't played in awhile though...still have my axe from when I was 16 though...1989 Yamaha RGX custom, wide neck-thru body with H-S-H...les paul pickup reversed in the neck position, and an active EMG in the bridge position. 5 position switch to run just neck, middle, bridge, or neck/middle, or middle/bridge. And a second switch to run the EMG and the les paul pickup...that's a HOT tone! Can't find these guitars much anymore...they only made them for a few years I think...it was Yamaha's top of the line at the time, I love this guitar...never get rid of it.
Just starting to get back into playing/writing...looking to pick up a Roland VS2480 recorder and get busy! Here's a pic of the RGX custom
