TECH: OEM Jack Use

Proper use for OEM Jack

1. Open the trunk and clear it of any personal belongings.

2. Remove the floor mat, cargo net (if installed), and then the floor board.

3. Remove the tool bag from the car.

*The tool bag should have up to three things. The lock key may not be there if you do not have any wheel locks.

4. Unscrew the plastic lock that holds the spare in place. Move the Spare to the side. If you needed to use the tire, you would completely remove it from the vehicle.

*Jack

5. To remove the jack, you have to turn the end counter clock wise to allow the jack to compress. If this has never been done before, it may take some strength to start the turn.

6. Remove the compressed jack from the car.

*The parts you have removed should be the following.

To operate the jack, you take the black hooked piece from the tool bag, and hook the end through the hole of the end piece.

The other black tool has a square whole in the center. Stick the screw driver (like) end of the hooked piece, and fit it through this whole.

at this point, all you would do is turn clockwise to raise the jack.

The jacking points of the car are as follows,
Front:

Rear:

These can be found on both sides of the car.

For more information, refer to your owner's manual. Section 6: Emergency Situations

And folks, don't forget to put your manual tranny in 1st gear, or your auto tranny in park, set your parking brake in both cases, and block your tires on the opposite side of the car if you must perform a tire change on any incline. And NEVER, EVER, EVER do any work under your car when it is supported only by the OEM jack!!!!

I don't like using ANY OEM jack so I went out to Sears and got me a nice Craftsman lightweight aluminum one to keep in the trunk.

I just need to get me some jackstands so I can do more normal maintenance on the car/more modifications without spending money to put on.

While working on my friend's CAI in his mazda 6, his OEM jack broke, bent clean in half. Scared the shit out of all of us. :x
