Thought it was about time to make one of these, so here goes.

History:

I bought this car on a whim. Heard it came to auction, read the specs and put in a bid. All said and done it set me back $6100 tax-in w/105k kilometers on the clock, which was a steal considering the amount of car I'd be getting for the money. Unfortunately, this meant I needed to dump the '12 Elantra I had just picked up some time before, but that's another story.

Maintenance:

Surprisingly little. The car is a stripper, besides the V6, no other option boxes were ticked so there isn't much to go wrong. I've replaced the battery, one 0² sensor, one headlight bulb, both windshield washer nozzles, clutch safety switch is dead (unplugged it) and a vent slider fell out. All minor stuff. I've put full synthetic oil in the motor and nothing short of 91 in the tank. She runs well, although the engine ticks rather loudly when it's cold. Doesn't seem to affect performance, and goes away after a few miles.

Managed to keep it stock for over a year, but nothing lasts forever.

Engine/Power:

Injen CAI
RRE GT headers
Injen 3" catback
TB bypass
Hackish 94 octane tune

Suspension/Handling:

Tanabe STB w/stock bar
Tanabe UB
Progress RSB
Moog Problem Solver rear links
Zmotorsports rear brace
Continental ExtremeContact DW tires

Drivetrain:

TWM GS STS w/Big Type R knob & aluminum base bushings
Torque Solution shifter cable bushings

Aesthetics/Misc:

Zmotorsports door pull brackets
Mitsubishi branded seatbelt cushions (salvaged)
RRE license plate frame

Coming Soon

Energy Suspension poly mounts/bushings
Redline MT-90 transmission fluid

Plans:

I'd like to get this thing on a track, so there's still much to do. Power is more than adequate for now, so I'm looking to put some more time/money into suspension bits. I'm hoping to get a good set of coilovers, poly mounts/bushings all around and sticky tires. Once I can take a corner, I'll worry about the other stuff, but those are the short term goals for now. I'll keep this updated as I go.

Thanks. Actually, the under brace was by far the easiest part to install and hasn't given me any real problems. Only two bolts holding it in place, and with an impact gun, come out real easy. No rattle or anything, I just removed it because I was paranoid about it catching on some ice and either sheering off or taking some other vital suspension component/s with it. Ground clearance aside, no qualms with the UB.

Here's a better angle, excuse the salty mess.

Not really an exciting update, but something that needed to be done. Both windshield nozzles inexplicably died on me today. One dribbled fluid, the other stayed bone dry. After popping the hood, it was clear that one side had sheered off at the point where the tube meets the plastic body. Curious as that part is hidden in a little alcove where nothing could possibly touch it. It completely fell apart when I tried to remove it with a pair of longnose pliers, so I absolutely needed a new set. Called up Mitsubishi by my house, only $15.95 per nozzle so picked up two. They actually come with part of the rubber hose, which made installation that much easier. Good design, only wish the plastic was a little less fragile. It'll crumble if you just look at it wrong.

Those are sexy ass headers
That they are

Nice Martino! I have an RRE plate too but they must have recently added "My race car is at" haha nice touch.
Lol, well it'll certainly be an improvement over my current "Nissan Prestige" frame

I bet the guy who helped you get those headers is a real sexy mofo ;)
Mike from RRE? Yeah, he's alright I guess lol. Thanks for the hookup

I've got an appointment with my mechanic to install the headers this coming Monday. Fingers crossed there are no nasty surprises.

This is awesome Plain Jane, great job! I had a set of Conti DW and loved them, very nice tires. Can't wait to hear how you like the RRE Headers, I wish I could do those, but living in CA those are a no-go for me.

When you're ready for coilovers, and I've plugged this many times so forgive if this is redundant, but I HIGHLY recommend contacting Welcome to Muellerized Suspension Systems. John Mueller was the original chassis/suspension guy at RRE, and did the suspension for the Ralliart Eclipse for Mitsubishi and for the RRE Eclipse Race Car. He's seriously one of the best suspension guys in the US and he's very familiar with the 4G. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WpmVk8SaEk

Basically they'll send you fill-in PDF questionnaire asking about budget, driving style, goals, mods, etc., then put together an estimate/package custom for you. They'd then ship you ready to install coilovers, completely customized and tuned for your needs.

They've been awesome to me, and my coilovers are easily the best mod I've done. Great for track day and livable as DD's. He did the install on mine (plus brakes) about 5 years ago and still going strong.

Thanks, Muellerized coils are definitely on my short list. Want to take care of a few other things before I get there though.

RRE headers are installed. First impression: it's a bit buzzy. You don't hear it as much in the car, but it's there. Between 3-4k rpm it's more noticeable (no buzz at all under 2k). Not the most irritating thing in the world though, I practically forgot about it by the time I got home. The throttle seems more sensitive and will react instantly to minor movements. I didn't change my driving style in the least bit and have peeled the tires on half throttle all around town. I didn't get a chance to flog it much as there was a lot of traffic, but I'm fairly certain it picked up a few ponies at the shop.

I smelled fuel just after starting the car up for the first time. Car runs very well with no CEL (yet).

Stock manifolds:

Thanks. So far, everything looks kosher, already planning on dropping a few bills on a catback so hopefully it won't stay stock for long. I should've mentioned that I have an Injen CAI hooked up already and that may have slightly affected the exhaust note.

I'd email RRE sooner rather than later. They've discontinued their headers (both 2.4 and 3.8) and may have very few left in stock. If not, you could have to wait a few months before they make them again.

Thanks Tristen. Good luck with your install. RRE recommends keeping the original exhaust manifold gaskets as they're stainless and should still be good.

Well, I do hope they remake them and you get your hands on a set. They won't disappoint.

I'm looking hard at the Injen catback. The man at ACI says the price is supposed to jump up to $944 per unit, so now's the time to buy. Unfortunately, being Canadian, I'd take it in the teeth on shipping. They say $825 tax-in to my door. It's a lot, but at least you have the piece of mind knowing you're paying for a well developed product that will deliver.

Oh im sure i will get them when the times right :) (just kinda hard waiting)

yeah idk about trying to have them ship them. Have you thought of just going to your local exhaust shop and explaining the type of sound your looking for and seeing what they can do? Have you also thought about shipping it to a US location and just driving back? Like ship it to a US store that's closest and get it installed and then drive it back into Canada? Whatever you do im sure that it would sound awesome with your setup man.
