QuickSilver, a progression thread.

[update 3/21/17] edited list to reflect changes and finished parts

Ok, this thread will be starting where my newbie thread left off on the repair and modification of my 2008 Eclipse GT currently dubbed "Quicksilver".

Link to my first thread discussing the future of my car and my introduction can be found HERE.

Below is a list of repairs and modifications that I have planned on doing, in no particular order, followed by pictures of QuickSilver in her vanilla state. Following posts will include pictures of progress and changes.

The plan is to eventually have a very technologically connected and driven vehicle, the Android head will have portable wifi, bluetooth connection to the OBDII reader, footwell lights, console liner lights, front and rear halo lights, color change bulbs, remote start, speaker ring lights, and more.

Repair:
  • hatch support, plate/ struts (one strut, plate, and two screws missing when purchased, replacements already on the way, also replacing the strut that is not missing) [done]
  • driver side door handle (cracked on back, cover missing clips) [done and CF wraped]
  • small paint removal from leather??? (purchased with some red paint on passenger seat)
  • need trunk cover replaced (was not available when I purchased)

Modifications:
  • *temp* adding aux cable to stock stereo till such time as I decide on and buy android head. [done]
  • carbon wrap accent pieces [Door handles and stereo plate done]
  • replace interior lighting with LEDs ( Trunk, glove box, dome, vanity)[dome done with blue, white panel is installed in trunk but will be replaced with better fitting LED]
  • under dash lighting
  • under seat lighting
  • custom shift knob
  • buy/modify trunk cover
  • puddle light projectors
  • change bumpers and side skirts
  • change head and tail lights
  • add EL wire around main dash piece
  • remove factory head, replace with double din android running head, then connect it to the LED control application, rear view camera, OBDII reader. Maybe add dash cam connection?
  • and more that I am sure will come up as I think about them

[edit 1] added current working hatch photo [/edit 1]

Progress of me fixing the hatchback support using questionable methods because the guys at autozone decided helping a cute girl was more important than helping the guy who had been at their store 3 times that day and had been waiting for over 30 minutes for one of them to come hold the hatch open. so instead I propped open the hatch with the old support and did what I could until I gave up, threw their tools on the counter and went home, just in time to make my roommate help me. Took about 5 minutes after that but ran out of daylight, so pictures of it fully functioning will come later today, till then, here is what I have.

Also had to replace the missing bracket on the left side of the hatch, plus the ball joint for the upper part of the strut, and the bracket came without the necessary bolts to attach it, so I got the missing pieces at autozone, and as I said, got no assistance from them to do anything with it. not saying all of them are bad (because really autozone isn't great anyway) but the one I went to yesterday is on my shit list for sure.

Andres, thank you you, I have/ will lol.

and on that note, here is the work I did this weekend, the good and bad of it.

so, wrapping the stereo panel is a major pain in the ass. definitely not my best work. luckily it was just an intermediate and practice wrap until I get the double din panel for the android head, which will be far easier to do. (less rounded edges and inserts)

I also tried to wrap the climate panel but due to poor adhesive, the texture, and my lack of patience at the end of a long fucking weekend, I was unable to do so. but I did wrap the handle face plate for the passenger side and will do the same when the handle for the driver side comes in today (thank fuck because it just fully broke today on my way to work).

I also installed the factory AUX cable while dealing with the face plate. Then I connected it to my Bluetooth receiver/ FM blaster/ USB charger, which was great until I realized all the sound is coming from the passenger side, so going to have to finagle with that some more.

Finally, I am disappointed to say my trunk LED is not exactly fitting. as far as tall and wide, it fits inside the plastic without issue.... however, I forgot to take into account that the plastic casing cannot fit over the LED panel and latch onto the clasps because the LED panel doesn't allow it to reach them. so for now the LEDs are blinding me since they are stuck with adhesive to the socket. I will probably be changing them back to the old bulbs and ordering one that fits inside the cutout, unlike the dome light.

and here is some pictures of the progress and work.

That looks pretty good regardless! I got some carbon vinyl I meant to wrap my stereo face with too but I've been too lazy and haven't gotten to it...

HAHAHA, yeah I get that all too well, I'm still in "new toy" phase and am using that excitement to get as much done before I lose focus.
