Talking My introduction to the Mitsu scene

Hi all.

Yesterday I purchased my very first Mitsubishi, a 2008 Eclipse GS 2.4.
Prior to this car, I had a 2003 Volkswagen Golf that was all done up
Our family has been a long time client with Mitsubishi, and my dream car is an Evo 7, so naturally I was quite happy when I scooped up this car for a good deal despite it being an Eclipse instead of a Lancer.

I admittedly don't know much about automotive mechanics, so you'll probably be hearing from me when something goes wrong!

But in the meantime I thought I'd just introduce myself and my ride. Looking forward to having it on the road by Tuesday.

Welcome to the club! Wanna throw up some more pictures? I can tell you already the car is modded. The headlights are the projectors from Auto City Imports.

If you're unsure if it's been done, do the timing belt and water pump. The belt is due, and you'll save yourself hundreds down the road by just doing the pump at the same time (the timing belt has to be removed to do the pump)

Any questions though, and we're here to help! Any chance you're in the London area?

Thanks all! I will be sure to throw up some more pictures when it's on the road tomorrow.

Sabertooth^2, I am from Ottawa, not too far but still a ways away. The timing belt and pump is a priority. The car is at 120k km so I imagine it hasn't been done by the previous owner since 60k or so km. We will be checking over the vehicle history later today anyway.
I figured the headlights were aftermarket as they are bright blue projectors with a black housing. Tail lights also have a black housing too.

Always peanut butter and jelly of the white eclipses. Red is great, but I think I would have enjoyed a white one since they're so uncommon

Welcome Thomas! Evo 7s are excellent, its cool theres someone out there who wants something other than an 8/9/X

The headlights are probably HIDs, they use H1 bulbs in the high and low beam, not the stock H13, so keep that in mind. A lot of people around here should be able to tell you that though, or you can find it on the forum when the time comes to change lights.

At 120,000km, I really doubt that much servicing has been done. The big stuff is more around 160,000, but due to the age, do yourself a favor and change the belt.

The tail lights I think still use all the stock bulbs. I bet they look great on your car. Is anything else changed? Eg, different intake, exhaust, interior wise. The OEM stuff is usually all plastic and boxy, aftermarket usually switches to smooth piping, simpler design

EDIT: Oh yeah. There's a tuner in Ottawa, goes by the name Hackish on here. If you asked nice maybe you could get your car tuned in person instead of over the internet, and requiring the Tactrix Openport 2.0 cable (save yourself c$220 roughly)

The reason for me falling for evo 7s is due to the fact that they are far less common of the evo fleet, and because of the "Knight" in Midnight Club 2 (It's an evo 7 clone). Was my favorite car of the whole game

I don't think anything else was changed on the car aside from the head light and tail light "modification". I'm going to invest in one of those small spoilers down the road. The ones that almost look OEM if you know what I'm talking about.

As for a tune, I presume you mean an ECU tuner. Those are quite expensive so I'm not sure if I'd ever go down that route. As lame as it may sound to some here, I'm going to be dailying this car. I don't have much desire to increase performance.

250 USD has traditionally been his rate when his service goes on sale. Works with the stock ECU

Sales have happened at the end of Canadian winter, and Christmas

Haven't had time to post more pictures and such as I've been super busy. Seems like the bulbs in the headlights need to be replaced. I could barely see anything at night. Anyone know what specific type of bulb I can replace it with? The headlights are marked as "Junyan" if that helps

Michael (Hackish) is right across the river in Gatineau Quebec. I would highly suggest you finish your power adder bolt-ons (intake, header, catback, RRE pulley) before seeing him, as getting multiple tunes will quickly become expensive.

Most members get HIDs from DDMtuning. They're awesome quality for the cost and have great warranties. The only downside is they ship most of their products from China so expect about a 2 week wait after you order.

Are you talking about the kit or the bulbs? Cause these bulbs definitely have to be replaced. How can I find out what size they are and such? I presume I have to figure out how to remove the bulb (after it's cooled down) and check it out?

Since your lights are blue, I'm guessing they're HIDs? I believe the HIDs our car uses are H13 bulbs. I'm not sure if bulbs are different between kits, however.

H13 is for the OEM assemblies. Thomas has Spec-D projectors which take H1s.

The HID bulbs aren't what controls the intensity of your light output, it's the ballasts. You should purchase a full kit from them (includes 2 bulbs and 2 ballasts). Everything is plug and play so you don't have to worry about cutting wires and junk.

Just gonna quote myself here, lol xD

The issue arises in are the ballasts 35w or 55w. You can run a 35w HID bulb with a 55w ballast, but it'll get hot and could melt the lenses, also it won't last long. Some 55w HID bulbs can be run on 35w, but don't work at optimal efficiency, and brightness will suffer. You'll have to find out what the ballasts you have are

You'll find something like this, the actual appearance may differ (google HDI ballast and you'll see a few types, all similar)

Hopefully it will have a sticker on it with at least a model number, if not the power output

It seems as if I will have to do some tinkering then.. So the issue could very well be within the "ballast"? Or is it more so I need to figure out what ballast I have before buying new bulbs? The way I see these devices is the almost like a very small amp. Maybe I have the right idea maybe not.

I did some research on my Junyan kit and it seems as if that was the bulb type that I needed. I like the blue look, but I might have to go with ice white bulbs for better visibility. I live in the neck of the woods so visibility at night is a must haha.

6000k is the whitest you'll find. Adding some yellow with your fog lights will help visibility as well. White sucks on snow, yellow doesn't. I run 3000k fog lights, which are gold in colour. I'd suggest them in the future if you decide to go HID on your fogs as well.

You could get some white LED high beams though. They'd work nicely, while you get to keep your fashionable blue HIDs for your low beam

That's what I was hoping to do. I would ideally like nice bright white high beams for night time. I suppose when using low beams (blue HID) it'll either be in the already lit city or for a few seconds when a car is approaching me.
