Out of curiosity, how long are the lugs you're using? 45mm or 60? 60 seems excessive, but I haven't taken my car apart yet so I could be wrong.

Also, I notice you have an 8" momo in there - did you replace the factory sub directly? If so, how much of a pain was it? Did you move "the box" behind the sub in there that interferes w/ the depth? Since Spyders are alot less common and our sub is diff than coupes, I haven't come across any interesting mods for the rear sub opening if you just get rid of the sub...

So far just popped on mudflaps (got tired of the mess from puddles and stuff - my neighborhood is still a construction zone for another 1-2 years) and tint (35% windshield, 10% all around); iPod cable is tomorrow, lower grill this weekend, black heads/tails in July, shortshifter in Aug tentatively for graduation (unless I lose my a$$ in Atlantic City). It'll be 3 weeks old on Thursday, wheee!

Thanks!

ok i hope i can answer all the questions...
  1. it is a direct replacement... i was tryin to go all MOMO... so the RF was staring me in the face... what i did was simple... there isn't a box on the back side of the sub... when the top is up u can take the cover off... once u do its just a thin plastic cover that protects the top... i first tried sealin it with dynomat... to much air space it distorted really bad (and its still an 8 so it was less than impressive ) so i then took the specs... and built a thin walled speaker box and fasten it behind the cushion (which u have to take off if u want to get to the back 5 1/2s ) but now it is clean and fairy crisp for 1 8" sub powered by a 700w amp...
  2. its not a pain... but u really don't have that much room... so a mid-level 8 will have to be the best u can do... and honestly if u amped the RF sub i bet that would be good enough.... its a dual voice coil with a pretty heavy magnet on it...
  3. i can't remeber if they are 45 or 60... u just really need to know these #s... "M12 x 1.5mm"...
  4. a friend of mine is actually working on a pretty neat install... he took a air canister... installed it in the sub hole... but the bottom faciong out and just installed air cyclinders... this will be his holding tank... it looks cool (not my taste alittle to flashy... but cool) but it does look like his car is happy to c ya ... ill post pics after the install is complete
i hope i answered all ur questions man and im glad to hear another spyder try'n the aftermarket seen

Hrrrmmmm...I'll take it to the shop I know for the sub and see what they can come up with; that goes beyond me.

5 1/2s? Crutch said they're 6 1/2s...hrrrmmm

The Fosgate is about 50-60W RMS. JL 500/1 500W RMS = explosion.

I'll figure out the lugs; from what I'm reading about the shortshifter for the GT it sucks so I'll do the lugs/wheels then. Painting the calipers is sounding like it's *entirely* too much effort...

Definitely wanna see pics of what he does with the sub opening.

Thanks!

RF always under rates their stuff.. plus what is it going to hurt???

well i think i used 5 1/2 componets for the rear... and put the tweeters in the stock placement... and installed 6x9s in the door... which is a direct install... but it is...

calipers are not that bad just alot of prep to do it right... thats y i went with black... so i could skip steps ... if i don't have a brembos or rotoras i really have no desire to make them pop out ... (i hope this was helpful... im about to pass out.. good night )

While you're 3-5x more likely to blow a speaker by underpowering vs overpowering, running 10x the max RMS is going to blow it, period. Fear not - I'll figure something out.
