Its the throw of the crank cause by the stroke. The longer stroke of 75 with high combustion pressure and high rpm elong the main journals. Installing oversize ARP studs on the four most inner center main will eliminate this problem.

although, would that be mostly the case on a boosted engine, or, an N/A or nitrous motor (sub 450whp)?

Bottom end is now beefed up with even more ford parts.

Picked up the engine today. Spent a few hours on it getting it ready to be put back in. I may not have any time on Friday to work on it. So it will be going back in Saturday.

The valve springs are out of a mustang not sure what year. But a 3 valve V8. 4.X litre.

The main studs are from ARP made for the Ford 351 Cleveland engine. ARP#154-5404

The engine is back in and RUNNING!. Bumper is still off waiting for a new discharge line for my AC. Yes I have to have AC. And the turbo should be here in less than a week.

Nope I have a 6 speed manual. It is a 32 pass oil cooler for the engine. There is also a large remote oil filter mounted on the front engine mount. The stock filter is too small for my liking.

Can't wait to see it up and running. I was wondering how the spec stage 3+ is doing for you.I'm planning on either going with the stage 4 or the one that you're running.

The clutch is going well so far. It was inspected when the engine was out. Its holding up well to my abuse. The 3+ has better holding than the stage 4. and being a full round instead of a puck style. Its smoother engagement. But neither have a spring pack. The spring pack in our car is in the flywheel. I have a solid aluminum flywheel so no springs at all. and its not bad. But Most people cant drive my car now though.

The main reason why I ask is because they told me that since the stage 3+ is semi metallic it will eat up the aluminum flywheel real quick while the stage 4 is carbon graphite and will not eat the flywheel as it wears out. How was the flywheel when you pulled it out.

It looked ok. No abnormal damage to it. I didn't take any pictures of it. If I remember I'll take some when I take it out again. And the surface where the clutch sits is steel. The flywheel itself is aluminum but the friction surface is a replicable steel piece. Even if it wears out quicker it still has to be better than the stock clutch.

The car is alive. Running well. I think there was something wrong with the original turbo. This turbo is spooling far better. My wife says the car sounds much better.

Sorry bad picture I'll get some good ones this weekend.

did you use standard size rods bearings or did you use an undersized set? My machine shop keeps on seeing too much clearance on the rod side with my BC's

I used standard size rod bearings. In fact mine where a tad tight. So he honed the bearings to get the fit perfect.

huh, maybe there was a change in the forgings between the years, or something with my rods, both the Clevite and King bearings I have given them keep having too much clearance, well, by my machinist's math, a 0.25 mm/0.010 inch under bearing should mostly make up for it with minimal to no cutting to the crank after coating

Picked up an entire evo 8 drive line on Friday.

Disassembled the transfer case and inspected. All ok. But installed the Helical LSD from another transfer case. Didn't take any pictures though.

Disassembled the rear diff and inspected. All ok. Re aligned the LSD plates for stiffer operation. From the factory they soften the LSD by putting similar plates together like this.

Adjusted them to this configuration. (both sides) Makes the LSD stiffer. Its a common easy mod for the evo guys.

Cleaned and sealed the diff. Ready for some paint and installation.

Despite my research the evo 8 and eclipse have the same spline size and count. The eclipse clutch goes right on. :tuppy:

V6 shim plate sitting on the evo 8 trans.

Eclipse clutch and flywheel sitting in the Evo 8 trans.

Evo slave and TOB removed. Along with the slide sleeve. I wont be needing it.

The Eclipse GT slave cylinder will sit in its place. Will need a custom adapter plate. But will work perfect. Lots of space for it. Infact I need to incorporate a spacer into the slave cylinder mounting plate.

A 6G75 block sitting where it needs to be with a stock clutch and flywheel connecting them. :tuppy:

A little trimming may be required to this mounting point on the engine to clear the transfer case. But I'll trim after the adapter plate is made.

Interesting. So does this mean that we may be able to use EVO 8 clutch kits in the Eclipse?

No we cant use evo parts in our clutch. The only thing that's common is the spline size and count. The clutch and flywheel is different.

When I did my v6 swap I test fitted my ACT kit (2003 Evo clutch) from my GS tranny to the GT and it does bolt right up. Only major difference, was the disc diameter was smaller than the GT clutch disc. Actually, just checking the FSM, the same clutch disc size is listed for both the GS and the GT which is the same size at the Evo

I know I wrote down the dimensions for the GT clutch disc size, but I'll have to find it. But in short, you could risk using the Evo clutch on a GT

Clutch disc size OD x ID mm (in)
240 x 155 (9.45 x 6.10)

This needs further review, because having better load clamping clutch kits would be pretty bas dss for those racing types of 4G owners with Big ole' power.

There's a lot a variables to consider from what I can tell. Average clutch disc diameter for the Evo is about 8.8" vs 9.45" for the GT/GS Eclipse. GT has a dual mass flywheel, where GS/Evo have a cup flywheel. Spline is slightly different 7/8" for Evo/GS vs 1" for GT....

I remember when I was installing the ACT clutch on my GS, the throwout bearing was slightly bigger than the GS throwout bearing, so I didn't use it..... I'm leaning towards plausible to using an Evo clutch on the GT.....

Adapter plate is coming along nicely. Could possibly have a 6g75 block bolted to a evo 5 speed, with the clutch in a week or so.
