Read in an automobile magazine that it looks like Mitsubishi will be ending the Eclipse and the Evolution. but,,but, They will be coming out with one new sports car that may or may not be powered by a Turbo Diesel. It will be along the lines of being "green" but with some power. Well that was about the extent of the article. Seems like it is looking more and more like the concept car. delivery date will be 2013. Price in the $30.000 range.

The car you speak of is in the 5G Eclipse thread.

It's called the Concept RA or "RA" for short. It's all over the internet bud and was debuted about 2 years ago?

This news was printed last week, Information was received by the reporter within the last couple of days. It should be obvious from other Mitsu. news that they are going all green. Hey Bud everyone knows the old concept news, so if you know more than the recent inside industry news then so be it

Magazine news alot of the time is old. For instance they had California MOD 2010 in the October issue of Import tuner like it was new news but I think mod was like in June or July or something. Magazines are behind hands down. I remember posting up about the Mitsubishi doing EV Spin offs of all future models like almost a month ago? I'm not trying to turn this into a flaming match, but before you post something use the search function. We're all already well aware of the RA and the electric spin offs they've announced.

As our friends have mentioned, there exist the possibility that the Eclipse will be substituted by the Ra, a concept that looks so much like the current Eclipse that it may just end being the 5g Eclipse. About the Evo, some people want to kill the icon, but others resist, and it will probably "evolve" with a Hybrid powerplant that, combined will still provide 300+ Hp. I read this at Road and Track a while ago, so this isn't actually news.

The Eclipse and the Evo are the images of the brand but they are not selling like some people would like them to do. When you compare cost of production versus profit, it is understandable why some people would like to pull the plug from the programs. Still, there are many persons that understand the importance of having to wild youthful horses on their stable, and those defend the low profits.

Correcto-mundo... we even have a 5g forum thats been running for awhile, take a look, you will see that the RA is old news...
It most likely won't happen.. but it would be swell if it did.. 300hp, awd, manual trans, with sleek looks, and a killer interior(the concept is just a wet dream but one can hope)

The evo isn't selling to bad, we actually have a few up here in North Dakota... which to me makes sense, awd an all, but we have more Ralli Art Lancers..

The last news *article* I read on it was that Normal, if it doesn't shutter, will be producing Lancers. That likely includes sportbacks (if it still exists in the next MY), Outlanders, and Outlander Sports. It's definitely a way to scale back, by moving OE production from Japan to here. The only problem is that, of course, we lose our American platform cars which, admittedly, haven't sold much at all.

Ever since MMNA decided to develop the American PS platform, everything really went downhill. Eclipses were fine up until they switched to the Galant-based chassis. Heck, Galants did fine until they went to the design that could be ported to SUVs!

Still, I maintain, the 4G is a robust platform. Engine, chassis, all. Why they scrubbed the F6MBA I can understand. Cost and sales. It's an excellent performer though - just not one that can be modified to accept a transfer case

Either way, if the Eclipse dies I'll be fine. More reason to buy a second one before the line goes to the grave

Anyway, it isn't like I share the same issues with driveline anymore that we all lamented for so long

you know, its the same issue we have with the now "square-enix" not producing a remake of ff7... if it happened it would sell like hot cakes.... it would probably sell PS3s...

well, if Mitsu came out with a a gsx, the same car, only updated "graphics" (similar look, only more modern along with better fuel economy, and more hp) but a lil rocket, crowds would flock back to mitsu...

The Eclipse has been based off the Galant platform as early as the 2G. I don't mind the Concept RA but the 2.2L diesel engine should NOT be the only engine...the 6B13, which make as much HP as the non mivec 6G75 or 6G75 Mivec...just kill the 4G69, it's too underpowered. My 1994 Galant GS make as much HP as the 4G69, without Mivec.

actually it was the 3g when they switch to the galant platform..but anyway, dude, its not just the motor but the factory tune...
I know the 4g69 could be a better motor... but its just about how they tune it...

look at the 4g63, in NA form it was pretty pathetic...

the new (2014) turbo'd 2G GEMA 2.4l (300+ hp)
the new 6 speed auto
the new second-gen CVT
the new 6 speed manual

....plus the availability of AWD on all drivelines.

We've kind of known that for a while now... Think about it, if Mitsu was developing a 5G Eclipse now, we would have seen a concept, test mule, or just rumors, Something!!!

Apparenly the PS platform is a fizzle and the plant was going to be shut down unless a new platform was going to be build there. They are a company out to make money and what are selling are lancers, outlanders, and the evo; what not sellings are the galant/eclipse/endeavour.

they won't close the normal plant, they have alot of money invested, but they can reconfigure and build something new there... I know a guy, who knows a guy who works down there... and they were at on point, kind of worried, but he said they got some new plans, or new machines or something...

Agreed on the RA concept, but we haven't seen any further development since, that's what worries me...

so lets take a look at the outlander and outlander sport. it has an awd trim with a 2.0L Mivec and CVT transmission. to underpin that, mitsu could come out with an awd coupe, with a turbo, 2.0L engine and CVT trans and save money because theyre using the same platform, just tweaked electronics and suspensions.

the outlander also has a 3.0L Mivec V6, mistu could turbo that and make it awd and have the 2.0L turbo be fwd if they wanted.. u never know.

im excited to see what comes out in the years to come.
