Local Mitsu Dealer Wants to Know Why I haven't Returned

I received an email from my local Mitsubishi dealer today wondering why I had not been back for servicing. Here was my reply:

Hello Kevin,

I purchased my '08 Eclipse from the Fayetteville site on the condition I could get it serviced in Raleigh. After a couple of visits I lowered my car by 1.5 inches and was told that they could no longer service it due to not being able to get it on the lift. Well that was the end of doing business with you. I have had it in several places since then that required putting it on a lift but the other places were smart enough to lay a board down to get the required clearance to get it on the lift. I am a member of an Eclipse club with over 3k members and (not your place in particular) Mitsu has earned a horrible reputation for service....especially warranty work. Now with them announcing that the Eclipse is going to be discontinued I doubt if I will ever buy a Mitsu again. Don't get me wrong...I love the car but it is incredibly hard to work on, the electronics are a nightmare, not much aftermarket support, little corporate support, and in my case impossible to get serviced by the dealer. Please go to our webpage Club4G.org (my username is NitroGlisson....check out my picture album) and see what has been done with your product and the potential customer base you will be loosing with the corporate decisions being made. My car was selected for COTM (Car Of The Month) for Jan/Feb. I have done a lot to promote Mitsu' in this area but have little faith in the corporation itself. Remember this email in a few years when you are selling only mopeds or lawnmowers from that location.

Your not-so-loyal customer,

Don Glisson

Well guys, I must say, I felt the exact same way about Mitsubishi. The service departments are terrible, and though this is the first Mitsu I have owned; I doubt I will purchase another. I bought my Eclipse new, at the Plano Dealership (in Texas); the sales department was okay at best, but better than the other dealerships at the time. Once I drove off the lot, that experience changed drastically and for the worst. They refused to service my car a week later; and this was before any modifications was done to it.

I have also been COTM, and us "modders" have signficant influence on people that would consider purchasing the vehicle because they see the potential first hand. Out of 7 Mitsubishi dealerships (I move a lot) only ONE has been willing to help me. The Mitsubishi dealership in Tyler, Texas has been the best one I've dealt with. The interesting part here, is all the BS the other dealerships gave me about the "car being to low," "we don't work on modded cars," etc was never mentioned here in Tyler. In fact they asked if they could keep the car a few extra days to leave on the lot and attract customers. I even got a free detail, free maintance and oil change, and free gas (they only put 2 miles on it) out of it.

I guess the point I am making here, is not all dealerships are bad. I've heard of a few other members having dealerships help with mod installs etc. BUT I agree, Mitsubishi as a company needs to make drastic changes. If "us" the real fans of the cars wont buy, that should say a lot.... and I wont be buying another Mitsubishi due to my experiences.

im sure your right matt man. ive only dealt with two of the mitsu dealers here. both had shady people with bad attitudes. but it could have been just a bad day. ive only asked for warranty work once. for paint. the lady told me it must be rusted THROUGH the car, at least the size of a penny. before they will look at it. thats.. penny sized hole through the metal... and everyone knows about the black cancer... so.. warranty work is shot out of the water. and the way the female dog told me didnt help. so. im sure theres nice people at nice dealers... but bedford and mentor ohio dont have them...

and id buy a mitsu. but it would be a 96 GSX fuck the dealers

Agreed 100%. I have written emails to my dealer and corporate and even told them at MOD last year that this will be my one and only Mitsubishi unless they seriously revamp their customer service. I love the Evo but its not worth the Mitsu bullshit.

They don't give a fuck about the customers once they sell the car. I have filed multiple complaints and nothing has come of any of them. The standard answer is "the dealers are individually franchised and we cannot force them to go anything..."

I am currently looking for a Hyundai Sonata 2.0T or regular Sonata even. At least they honor their warranties and help their customers.

well i have little flecks of rust. looks like there was something in the corrosion bath and stuck through the paint process. and you can tell its on the underside cause if you run your nail over it it doesnt catch. in other words theres clear coat over it. but. nope. those were magical rocks the size of a grain of salt that somehow hit THAT spot only...

Same opinion here... No more dealer BS for me after they fucked up my oil change and blew up my engine ( case in court right now)... And anyway, their service was only so-so before that... I dont ask for donuts and BJ's at every oil change, but dont tell me my aftermarket muffler is not installed properly when i ask you to check on a noise coming from the soft top... True story !!!
I just forget what "warranty" is supposed to mean and either do the work myself or take it to a local performance shop...
I love my Spyder, but i hate Mitsu as a corporation, and their stealerships even more so...

Hmm, I guess I have a rare case here. I normally go to McGinnis Mitsubishi in Houston and i'm pretty good friends with the service manager there and he is always very helpful and never says anything about aftermarket parts. They have never messed anything up on my car and have replaced multiple things under warranty including: OEM RF sub and 1 door speaker, a trans mount, and the rear exhaust manifold. The dealership I go to when i'm at school in Fort Worth is Huggins Mitsubishi and they are really nice as well and have only said one thing about my intake when I was getting a CEL for it, but they worked to get it fixed so I didn't have to replace anything.

We have only one dealership in North Dakota, Fargo. I went there couple times. Only once for oil change and check for recalls. Also they did replace steering pump cause it was leaking, no wonder why. Winter here sucks.
I suppose bringing aftermarket parts to dealership can be tricky. They don't want to take any responsibility in case something goes wrong.

Its a shame dealerships are only franchises and really arent controlled by the parent company. Ever since Crystaller hasnt had a stake in Mitsubishi they've been shit. Its a shame they really make beautiful looking sportyish cars.

yeah ive never had any bullshit with my dealer. its a crown dealer who sells mitsu so its not a direct mitsubishi dealer. they never give me anybullshit, replaced my blown struts even though they knew im lowered (eibach sticker on side kirts), reattached my rear bumper after i got my aero kit installed because im lowered (for free!), and know me by name becuase im always there, along with another tuner who has a heavily modded evo x pushin 800 to the wheels. they say they respect me for the beauty ive brought out of the 4g.

must be becuase florida ppl are always happy =)

the reps out of the normal plant were at the Chicago car show and said they had no plans at all to discontinue the eclipse and that the internet articles were just rumors like they've been for years, they said it over the past generations too. They said that it was unlikely to be discontinued because its been selling good.

Sure looks like I hit some nerves here Glad to hear of the good experiences too and probably would not have had I not started this thread. If I were to buy another Mitsubishi it would pay me to research the good dealers and relocate near one

Mitsu's are pretty much just a sideline at the dealer near me. They were originally a Pontiac/Toyota/Mitsu dealer. When GM pulled the plug on the Pontiac line they shifted most of their effort into the Toyota end of the business. It's really pretty pathetic. The Mitsu part of the dealership occupies a small part on the end of the building and I've heard the Mitsu certified mechanic only comes in a couple of times a week, so if you need service beyond something simple like an oil change, be prepared to wait.

Did they do this under warranty and charge it off to Mitsu or just eat the cost of the struts? If they did it on their own dime, that my friend is one dealer in a million!

gspower is a jewel in the roughgspower is a jewel in the rough
its all under warranty, but it shouldnt be.
they could have easily said how the lowered springs put added stress on my strut causing them to blow, making me pay for them, but they didnt.

I'm not sure how all dealerships are but i know how the dealerships around here in Washington (namely Mitsubishi dealerships) work. They have at least 2 different labor cost lists that they use depending upon the work that needs to be done. If the work that you want done is considered warranty work then the shop is only allowed to charge 70% or 75% of what the full labor cost, said another way, warranty work costs $75 an hour and non-warrantied work costs $100 an hour so when they claim that a job wont be covered under warranty they do so in order to get a bigger paycheck. The reason that they only get paid 75% of full labor costs for warrantied work is because the customer doesnt pay for the work, Mitsu HQ pays for it, and they (Mitsu HQ) doesnt want to pay their workers the same amount that they require customers to pay them. What they seem to forget about is the fact that satisfied customers bring repeat business and encourage new customers, however dissatisfied customers dont come back and they will also discourage potentially new customers.

my service place sucks i havent been there in over 3 years... not since they told me when i had a nail in my tire and they told me that they "cant fix tires with aftermarket rims" ok mine are just painted and i told them that they need to look a little closer and that they were stock.. i bet they felt like idiots i never went back, besides everytime i would go in for just an oil change they would come get me in the waiting area and say well this that and the other is "wrong" with you car and it will cost this and that to get it fixed.. im not paying money for something that i dont even give a shiz about... once i told them there was a rattling coming from the front when i go over bumps and when i stop and to just take a look and let me know. what did they do? removed both my heat shields and didnt tell me until i was walking out and that wasnt even the problem! the support bar was missing a bolt so it was loose and making nosie.. they are idiots where i live!
