as much as we bitch, the eclipse has never been the flagship sports car for mitsu, and it never will be..
however, they are doing something amazing with this new car, giving you performance(not just power, but handling(which is more important in my book)) economy and a really sharp looking ride.. and as said above, the target audience is younger people, not enthusiats.. and as for the Evo only for Europe.. the FQ line has always been better then ours.. Europe is balla!

Too bad really. 3.8 engine with Turbo would actually have good gas mileage. Designing new engine doesn't seem to be really cost effective. Adding turbo on already existing engine would be cheaper for Mitsubishi. I bet they can tweak Evo Turbo to work on 3.8 engine.

I would like to have new Eclipse as follows:

First of all stop making 2.4L I4 engine.

Basic Eclipse - 2.0L 152HP ~$15,000 FWD, MT or AT
Regular Brakes

Mid Level Eclipse - 2.0L Turbo 237HP ~$23,000 RWD, MT or AT
Brembo Brakes Optional

High Performance Eclipse 3.8L Turbo 400HP ~$30,000 AWD, MT or AT
Brembo Brakes Included, Sports Suspension

So there you go, you have economy, performance and car for every pocket.

Also Diesel is more expensive then Regular Gas and i don't see how that fits into Economy.

ok, putting that lil 16g on that 3.8 isn't that great of an idea.. it's gonna be spool up quick but top out far too soon. secondly Mitsu makes amazing four cylinders.. thats what they do. They should continue to stay with what they know. Why do you think when they did the Ralli Art 4g it was using an Evo 8 engine.

ok then put 2.0L Turbo tweaked to 330HP and call it good and make it AWD. I guess my next car is Nissan 370Z if nothing.

Mitsubishi could easily had 3.8L tweaked to 300HP and RWD but for whatever reason they did not.

its easy enough to get one to 300 "whp"
they could go ahead and call the current model 300 "hp"
and mitsu does awd and fwd. thats what they do.
if you can afford a 370z then by all means go ahead.

I love mitsu for what they make.. amazing AWD turbo 4's and some decent FWD rides..
but i have 2 twin turbo 300zx's for 'power' ... tho one is a DD... lol


I have a 3g eclipse with evo head/turbo.. blah blah blah.. was gonna do AWD, even had the trans.. but meh..

purchase two evo x headlights, and put bigO top and bottom eyelids on it molded to the bumper and hood of a 4g. the back would be a problem though

the red on is set to be a track car... but it needs to turbos and new seats.. the black one could be a great track car, but its auto, and needs new injectors

Then Mitsubishi doesn't need Eclipse line at all or perhaps Mitsubishi should look at Nissan and make something Nissan managed to make with Nissan 370Z.

Or keep the v6 and do what porsche did with it, keep evolving the engine until you have a high output, low emission beast

yeah, that engine is whats giving mitsu a name outside of the tuner world. it has some actual muscle to it. some people will just never have respect for an in line 4. but when we're packing a bigger V6 than .. pretty much anything with a V6. we turn heads. especially if we let it breathe

i understand what youre saying, but for some people bigger engine = more respect.
so maybe they should put an I4 back in the gs and stick with the 3.8 in the gt
the I4 has already proven itself. they should keep working on the 3.8 its a good engine, but youre right, they could get more power out of it.

they failed with a awd v-6... 6g72 in the GTO.. and i <3 the GTO... but meh, v6 and eclipse just doesn't really do it for me..

I think if they did this, people would actually buy into mistu again..
Evo, leave it as is.. compete with STi
eclipse, turbo i4/turbo i4+Awd 300+bhp... 25k$
especially with a sexy new frame.. something like this would give mitsu an edge.. great gas mileage and a tight handling package

3.8L V6 has more potential then 2.0T I4. I don't see 2.0T 300HP AWD Evo being any monster over Nissan 350Z 3.7L V6 RWD for example.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2.0T 291HP - 16 / 22 mpg

So much of pricing, another argument which fails.

Upgrade:
Nissan has so much more room for performance upgrade then Lancer. With no modificaitons we are talking about 450-500HP.

Bottom line is: i4 Turbos are over rated and there is really big stereotype about those engines. Afterall Toyota Supra is not i4 turbo engine but I6 turbo , Nissan GT-R is not i4 Turbo but V6 Turbo.
In my book Mitsubishi should leave lancer 2.0T at 237HP they are selling right now. Get new body for Eclipse, make it RWD and get 400HP with Turbo or Supercharge on V6 engine, and slower version should be just V6 RWD with no Turbo or Supercharger.

I wasn't comparing Nismo and btw you don't need Nismo to match Lancer so yeah. Base and Nismo have same engine and 15HP wont make a damn difference. With no heavy modification you can get 450-500HP out of 370Z. All you need is supercharger and you're done. 1000WHP car spends more time in garage then on street so that argument of yours is epic failure. And for your information Mitsubishi does not make Lancer anymore. All you can buy now for 2009 is AWD 2.0T 237HP which is absolute no match for Nissan 370Z. How many people are willing to mess up with brand new car...tell you how many almost NONE.

I am not saying Lancer is bad, it's a great car but saying that 2.0T is better investment then V6 in term of power, gas saving and price is absolute bullshit. And btw it's not all about HPs. Look at Nissan Gt-R

we arn't even talking about the 'lancer' we are talking about the evolution...
so you can't compare a regular lancer to a 370z, and i was talking base price of EVO not lancer, a lancer can be had for 18k$
and your talking about 5k + for a 370z supercharger kit.. so power for dollar it still doesn't match up..

honestly.. sounds good. then we can turn the diesel into a vegetable oil engine. run it even cheaper. run pex tubing off the engine and coil it in the fuel tank to heat it up. we'll be doing just as many fuel saving mods as we will power mods.

I love the idea of an AWD turbo-charged COUPE. That's the big factor right there. The Evo is nice but I don't want to feel like a Mommy driving a 4door, atleast not at 16...
