OK working on a friends 89 camaro and bought a brand new stereo and speakers hooked it up and tested great but when it officially got it mounted in the dash we have static in every speaker now and not sure why
Couple things to try, check your ground first, from there check all your speaker connections make sure there's no bare wires poking out of your tape/connectors. U said it worked fine before you mounted the deck right?
That too, but only if the speakers are hooked to an amp. Also, make sure the antenna is plugged in at the back of the deck, older cars the ground at the harness isn't enough and the antenna is essentially another ground.
OK I'll try the ground and speaker wires and yeah the stereo worked perfect until we put the install kit together and we are not using an amp but it might be the antenna thing cuz I'm not to good with old cars
OK I tried that and their is still static but I realized with different music it sounds perfect even turned up loud but other songs sound horrible the whole time could this possibly be a malfunction in the stereo or any other ideas because I went through every wire and they are all connected good
It is possible that the car had the premium audio system in it from factory, in which case the two front speakers and two rear speakers use a common ground, that would cause this problem as well. If this is the case only fix is to run new speaker wires from each speaker to the deck.
Yeah we used burnt CDs and the radio and I'll try new wires because it does look like a lot of the wires are spliced together and I believe they are grounded
ok so i got it all figured out. the problem was that every ground wire for all 4 speakers were spliced together and im not sure why so if anybody knows why the stock stereo would require that please let me know because the stock stereo sounded fine but with a modern deck its completly different. and thanks for all the help
Had the premium audio then. That's how they used to do it back in the day. The regular system didn't use common grounds but the premium ones amplifier was set up like that, it basically allowed them to use 2 ohm stock speakers instead of 4 ohm.
wow i wish i wouldve known what i know now with my first car an 84 thunderdird with a 5 spd, turbo and premium audio the stereo had so many crossed wires i had to rewire everything and it still wasnt that great
Oh man old fords are the worst for stupid wiring. Even the knew ones are more complicated than they need to be
