2G 99 eclipse Help

So my sister has been driving it a lot. Anyway she ran the oil bone dry and the radiator is busted so it ran hot. She said it was smoking then shut off and now it will not crank. We put oil in, Change the spark plugs, we even unplugged the battery for a good two hrs thinking It might be the ECU. I know its not locked because it will turn but just wont fire Is there any suggestions how to resest the ECU cause im thinking it will not let the car get gas right now. Thanks guys

I think you need a new engine. That is what it sounds like but I'm not a Mitsu mechanic.

Well the first thing I would do is put fluids back in it. Check the battery connections there none for coming loose and not making a full connection. Then I would check your drive belts and timing chain. How many miles? Have the belts been replaced?

tranny fluids good, oil good, anti freeze. It has 140k miles. Belts have not been changed since i got it with 80k miles. They still turn and seem pretty tight. The cables are connecting to battery tightly. Its a new battery. WHat is your take on the ECU.Could that be an issue?

ECU could be best bet would be to get one from a junkyard. However timing chain on those go at around 100k or after that would be were my money is

Im not the brightest with cars as you can tell but does the timing chain help crank it and get the engine started? The only reason i was thinking ECU cause when she(sister) ran it with no oil it may have shut off and will not let the engine get gas until it is over written, maybe at a dealer or something.

Never seen anything like that with a DSM ECU older cars will shut off if the oil level is to low but not because of the ecu. It will shut down due to mechanical reason's like oil pressure, oil pump stuff like that. If the timing chain or drive belt is broke yes it will act like it wants to start but won't start. You would here like a clicking noise when you turn it. Then again if she was driving with no oil it could be the oil pump. Lesson number 1 if someone isn't going to take of your car then don't let them drive your car.

Haha well thanks for all the help hunter. Im going crazy wondering if i just want to drop about 6g and get a turbo and all kinds of goodies cause im sure that car would fly with a turbo but i dont have enough of knowledge on that stuff. Ill keep you updated and maybe see who wants it if I get rid of it.

If its a GST it should already be turbo'd. If its a GS find out if it has a 4g63 or a 420a engine in it. If its a 63 turboing will be very easy cheap if its a 20a then it will be quite expensive as you would need to buy a whole kit

Thanks for pointing that out wolf, anyways wolf is right if its FWD and N/T than its 420a they sell kits but it would expensive pointless. You could buy a DSM with 4g63t for cheaper. If its a spyder than it has a 4g64 and you should surf around club3g. Other than that if it is 420a dude well its a neon with an eclipse shel on it might as well just kick it.

Hey guys, turns out it was the coil thing that connects to the spark plugs. Not sure why it was bad but we replaced for for about 80 bucks and now it works fine. Just gotta get the radiator fixed now. Thanks again for the help

too slow to respond...damn

you say its a gst...that means its turbo...easiest way to tell is look for the turbo...it'll be right infront of the valve cover under the exhaust manifold

here are your motor options:

420a

4g63:

however i do believe that in 99 they had a 4g63 motor that was N/T...so like i said...look for the turbo between the radiator and block below the exhaust manifold

Sounds like your 420A is toast. I would bet the bottom-end is shot from running it dry. The head isn't fond of that either. And if it over-heated enough, your head gasket may be toast as well. By the way, if you're thinking the timing belt went, 420A's/4g63's are interference-engines. If the belt snaps or jumps a tooth, the valves slap the pistons. I don't need to tell about what that means for that engine.

Wingo171 is on a distinguished road
4g63 engines have the tranny on passenger side, 420a have on drivers side. From extreme heat and all, it's prolly a head gasket that she roasted, and the piston rings are probably shot as can be too. If she knows whether it smoked like crazy and if it was blue smoke, that would be the definitive answer.

But if fixing that coil distributor cap was enough than good!
