real rearview mirror?

Is there a way to get an aftermarket real rearview mirror in our cars, instead of the toy electronic piece of junk that comes with it? Half the time mine doesn't work when I want, and when it does it's too slow. I want a simple lever-style one where I flip the thingie and the view gets darker immediately, like every other vehicle I've ever used. Can this be done?

I'm pretty sure rearview mirrors are universal, so I think it can be done. If not, worst case scenario you have to glue on a new mount. All depends on how determined you are!

Not sure what you're on about, my rearview mirror is your standard no frills manual one. Pretty sure it's stock too, no wires or anything going to or from it.

Unless the electronic mirror was optional or aftermarket?

I know the models with the sun roof, like mine, have the map lights built into the rear view, and it's garbage. I wish I had a plain old manual rearview

We also have the auto dimming feature. It works quite well without window tint. Mine has only worked maybe once since

Sabertooth did you by chance see ryguy's post about the broken solder on the rear view mirror board and the pictures he took of it all?

I have, yeah. Mine worked fine the morning when I went to get my tint on, but didn't that night. I run with 15% tint. Cause and effect makes me want to say it's the tint lowering the light levels

Why do you need a dimmer if you have 15% Tint? I know on my mom's 3000gt I hated that because I couldn't see anything behind me at night and made backing up a nightmare without a backup camera. Looks cool as hell from the outside. But yeah, I think the main thing is the activation of the door trigger to get your interior lights to come on when you first open the door. The auto dimmer and the map lights seem to be tied together, but at least you'll know the auto dimmer should work by the green light on the mirror assembly itself.

For the OP, the biggest factor I have seen for the rear view mirror activation of the dimmer is based on your height and where you angle the mirror. If it is not seeing the light coming straight through the back window, it takes longer for it to decide to dim. I'm 6'11" and it takes some time for the dimmer to kick on because of how high I have to push the mirror and the angle I put on it. It kicks on pretty quick with a large truck behind me though where their beams are at that level of the mirror.

Pickup trucks with bright HIDs. They still activate the dimmer

Same, 6'1" and I can't even wear a hat in the winter because it rubs on the headliner.

I run the seat all the way back, lay the backrest down a good deal, and drive without shoes. Only way to do it. My body is also proportionate as in my legs and torso are even. Helps you fit when your body isn't top heavy in the seat
