stalls without clutch when cold

My 6 speed GT (which doesn't have a GT badge, and I don't know why but I want one, but that's for another thread) won't idle without the clutch pedal down. It turns over just fine, and it will run just fine as long as I sit there with the clutch to the floor, but if I put the stick in neutral and let the pedal out, it stalls out. It's a smooth stall, but a stall nonetheless. What this translates to is that I can't let my car run for a few minutes to warm up, along with the heater and the seat warmer, when it's cold out. I can't even let it run while I scrape the frost off the windows. By the time I get to work, it's fine and will idle properly. By then, however, it is too late

What's up with this? How do I make it not be that way?

Does the car need to be driven to not stall, or if you sat and actually held the clutch down until the engine was warm could you then put it in neutral

I'm not suggesting that for a practical "fix", it just helps with troubleshooting

Bad old thick oil doesn't like the cold, so I could see that slowing you down, Especially if water has seeped in over the years, which could freeze as well and compound the issue

I don't know about letting it sit long enough to be able to hold an idle, because I'm not that patient But presumably that would work because after it's been warmed up from driving it works just fine, and I'm sure the 'warmed up' part and not the 'driving' part that does that.

Try just taking off in gear with it cold, then after a few yards put it in neutral and let off the clutch again. See if it still stalls

I tried this morning and was able to idle after moving it a bit, but it was also much warmer this morning, relatively, than when this is an issue. It may be that it just wasn't cold enough for the problem to surface, or it could be that the short distance means whatever you think it means and you have a correct idea of the problem.
