Talking to a mitsu rep will get you nowhere with this one...because everyone's light could be on for different reasons. If you don't get a code when reading with a scantool, you'll have to take it to the dealer to hook up with an MUT-III factory scan tool.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but it really can be a huge number of things...
Are any of these things related to traction control?
Or is Mitsubishi just retarded, having the light come on for any stupid reason?

I think most if not all the things that will set the TCL light have "something" to do with the TCL system. In other words, if you have a speed sensor go out, that could affect traction control...if an injector isn't working properly, that could affect it...any parameter the traction control routine would look at or use will turn that light on I believe.

MR. DSM...it's not just in one spot in the book...if you look at individual codes it will tell you what lights/codes will be set if the conditions are out of spec...there are several that say they'll set the TCL light.

I dont think he's talking about the original manual that came with the car.
But rather the in-depth one that Russ has in his signature.

Code - P0171

Supposed to be something with a vaccum hose or the gas cap (not all the way closed)
I taped the blue cylinder hose for the stock box vaccum. That seemed to stop everything but we will see.

bump yet again

came on tonight as i was passing advanced...but this time it came with the service engine soon light so i turned around and had it scanned

P0714

which the guy told me was something to do with a lean bank but according to the thread on obdII codes here on c4g its "Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Intermittent"

ideas? probably going to call mitsu and set up an appointment later this week if unhooking my ecu for a few doesnt fix it

If I drive in under 40 degrees the TCL lights come on and then will shut off with a restart. I think it's a Mitsu gimic to get all of us in the dealership.

Happened to me today too. Mine is an 07 stock GT. The only thing I've done recently is change the oil. I checked to make sure filter is on tight, and oil level is ok. Nothing is leaking. Was driving it normally when the Traction Control and 'squiggly tires' lights came on. Temperature outside was 54F, its in FL, so my car doesn't experience low temps often. Been in the 40s all week. I'll take it by advanced to see if they can pull a code. Called stealership that I bought it from, they told me they've never seen that on the eclipse before and wanted to set up an appointment to bring it in. It's still under warranty, so I might just do that (23.5k miles since June of 2007).

well this is good news actually

this means that its not due to mods so the dealer can fix it under warranty

Well guys...add me to the list now....I was at a stop light and probably shouldnt have but did and gassed on it not really hard but harder than normal...when I hit 4,000 rpms around that time when MIVEC should do its thing car stated acting like MIVEC wasn't kicking in or something started acting like all the cylinders excpet for one was misfiring...looked at the gauges and there was our two little awesome lights TCL and mr. squiggly car. I've unplugged the battery, taken the ECU fuse out, reseated the MAF sensor plug, listened for any crazy vaccuum leaks...nothing. I turn the car back on after doing all of this...service engine is on...so thats a plus...but at first the two lights don't come on but the service light does immediately but after 20 secs of the car running the two infamous lights come on...so i'm not sure if its throwing a code.

When I was driving I tried again getting up to 4,000 rpms didn't happen...I think mitsu put in a safety feature that if those lights are one then it will not allow you to exceed 4,000 and overrides MIVEC "for your safety"...well what about the safety of my mental well being from being so frustrated with this $h!t...GAH..... any other brainstorming?

I'm going to Checkers tomorrow ASAP to check for a code...hopefully I'll have one...

I have installed a Fujita CIA and i've had a code since that...could never get rid of it. I think it was the P0171 code...so if anything's different than that I'll assume its from this TCL and mr. squiggly getting involved.

TCL light problem

I have an '06 and I have the same problem with my GT. My TCL comes on when I change gears from 3rd to 4th gear, and sometimes even 2nd to 3rd gear depending on how hard I step on the accelerator. I have an INJEN CAI, but, my problem only happened recently since I have had the engine replaced from Mitsubishi. I had no problem with the TCL light or any problems with the traction control until they put in the new short block. My dealer says that my check engine light that stays on is due to my INJEN CAI. I asked how thats possible since it was never a problem before my engine broke. I still have my check engine light on and the TCL light off until I accelerate then it comes on and stays on until I shut the engine off, and then it stays of for 3-5 mins. then comes back on. I have 18x8.5 Rays Engineering G lites on the car. I wish I could find out how to get the DAMN lights off.

Mine is an auto, so I haven't really paid attention tO gear shifts when problem occurs. I was on the way to the stealership to get my trunk strut replaced when the light came on, so I had them run their diags on it. He said there was a code, but not a regular code. I don't know too much about this type of stuff, but he did mention a code I just forgot it (p11 maybe?). Said it was saying the maf sensor was wigging out. So he cleared the codes and told me to bring it in right after it happens again. I leave the dealer and 2 miles down the road it comes on again. So I pull a uturn and head back. He checks codes again and said that it's running lean. The car has never had anything other than 93 gas in it, and it's bone stock in every way (2006 GT). He cleared codes again and told me to bring it in when it lights up again. Hasn't in 2 months. Next time it happens though I'm going to take my time and let them troubleshoot it. (they wouldn't give me a courtesy car, and I didn't have time to leave car with them for more than a few hours.

I will call and ask what the code was and update it here, maybe one of you will know something about it.

That code has been coming on so often it's driving me crazy. I have to re-start my car 2 times for it to clear but it usually comes right back on after a few minutes on a highway.

Weather has been warm here in Florida, and my lights haven't been on since February/march. I haven't had anything done to the car since then either. No change in driving habbits or anything.

For reference, there was another thread started about this. Could the problem be possibly related to something electrical? (HID install, battery swap, etc)
TCL light

Yes, the battery can also cause this problem. There are several ECUs on this car not to include the main ECU. If one of these ECUs is not getting a constent or low voltage they will turn themselves off to prevent Browning-out the ECU, the ECUs that use the most voltage are the TCL and SRS. If either ECU is not getting proper power they will shut themselves down and cause the light to come on.

I think it was the AEM CAI that was having problems for a while and it would cause the TCL to come on, this was due to how the air came over the MAF sensor. The electrical system on this car is intergrated, somtimes in series such as the TCL system. So if one part has a problem it causes the TCL to set.

Some of the things that I've seen in the past that has set the TCL are; MAF Sensor and/or associated with the CAI, Speed Sensor, TC Wheel Sensor, Batterry, Random Misfires. So this type problem can be very tricky to T-Shoot.

I have a 2006 GT also bone stock 80,000 miles...and mine came one today with the P0300 SES. Cleared the code...but the slippery and traction control did not go out. Code has not come back.
