For the Eclipse TSB's and recalls you should be able to check the Mitsubishi North America website along with.

It appears that you are driving a GS; The recall was for GTs.

i called my dealer a while ago.. gave him my vin number.. he said there was no recall... but to bring in the car to check the cat.. im really hesistant on doing that cause i dont wanna change my exhaust and CAI back to stock just to bring it to the dealer. I was hoping it was something little like an exhaust leak.. my mechanic said there is a very minor leak.. but nothing that should throw a code..my next option is the 02 sensor thing that people have been saying could be the problem.

^^^ you're getting hosed... Take it to a different dealer.

And it wasn't a RECALL I don't think...it was a TSB (technical service bulletin)...basically, if a car comes in and shows this code, then they need to perform the ecu reflash, if it presents again or this doesn't help the code, then they need to replace the pre-cat. And if you have an 06 GT it falls into the covered vehicles on this...I believe it was all 06 and some of 07...I got my 06 done years ago...free of charge.

I have this same code..about 2 months now.... I had it checked at Autozone and they said to run some fuel cleaner...it worked for a couple days.... then back on. I recently checked it myself( canOBD2 diagnostic tool ) came up with....P0421..warm up catalyst efficiency below threshold....And it comes on and stays for a while...then off but then back on....I reset computer the other day....Now its back on...

I got this P0421 code on for a month, it won't go away. It started with bad gasoline, showed up twice then disappeared, now its been steady. Fuel consumption got worse.

Its a factory recall on all 06 and some 07 models. The ecu is telling the 02'd to run too hot and its burning out ccats in manifolds. If the recal has been performed and the ecu reflash wasn't competed it will happen again. Mitsu did not figure out the ecu reflash until later in the recal. Only way to fix it is to buy headers and spacers. Or buy stock manifolds for double the price and let them burn up again.

should be as long as you have the spacers for the rear o2's. spark plugs and sparks? Well spark plugs i would go with ngk inodiums. one step colder for a cleaner hotter burn. Its a pain in the butt to change them because they stacked the intake manifold on top of the rear 3 so i would suggest buying the spacers and put those on at the same time. if by "sparks' you meant wires...... We have individual coil packs...no wires to change.

1.The exhaust spacers for the RRE headers can be found on the RRE website. Like 20 bucks a piece and you'll need 2 of them.

2.The intake spacers are essentially gaskets for the Tb and intake manifold. Outlaw engineering are the makers of these. they are 1/4 inch spacer gaskets that allow air a tiny bit for time to cool. that equals more hp.

3.Again, our cars to not have cables. we have coil packs. stock are fine. Those spark plugs are fine as well.

I had the Code yesterday After a quarter Mile Event. I had to Start the car several Times because i had to wait in the line to get to the start. Now the car Sound like Running on 5 cylinders. The exhaust Sound got much deeper and the car seems to Be slower now. What do you think? Could a spark plug Be damaged? I have to Mention that the car was already warmed up when i Started it every Time.

Ok guys I need some help here like really bad. This code came on for me and after reading all of this sticky I called the dealership and they told me that I need to the reflash but they have to replace the pre-cats as well or the code will just come back on but the catch is there not gonna pay for any of it sooooo thats stupid expensive. $105 for the reflash and like $700 for the cats installed. So I dont know what to do pay up or maybe go aftermarket headers with spacers for the rear O2.but if I do it that way do I still need the reflash????

I also need help with this, I have an 06 GS and called and they pretty much said they can't do anything to help me. This code for me seems only to come on when it rains and then the day after and then it's gone.I have 67k on my car right now so I'm outside of the warranty. Is the any way for someone as noobish as myself to determine weather or not it is spark plugs, o2's or cat's as discussed?

If you look at page 5 in the warranty book at ww*.mitsubishicars.com/media/owners/pdf/2006_pass_car_and_suv_warranty_booklet.pdf

it wont let me post a URL

it states that the cat's are warranty till 8 years 80,000 miles for performance or defect so they should do it for free, I'd print it out and take it in to the dealer and bitch.

Just Had Mine Done

About 5 weeks ago the engine light came on when I got some gas, drove it for about a week and then it went off, 2 more weeks went by with it off, then got some gas and boom right back on again, took it to auto zone they said P0421 code take to Mitsubishi and get fixed under warranty. Called made an appointment, light was on all weekend, the day of the appt. the light goes off, I called them and they said bring it in anyway, Was there 15 minutes guy comes out and says, yea we are gonna have to order you a right side cat and manifold, part should be in within a week, yesterday dropped off the car, they had it all day, called around 3 and said come get it. There was no charge. I figured after reading all the stories here i was gonna get screwed around cause my car is at 58000 miles. but i read that the cats are warranted to 80000 anyhow.

Mine just threw this code today! WTF It was really cold this morning like 17 degrees so I just reset it and am going to see what happens. I'm 100% stock I haven't started modding anything under the hood.

Ok well if I continue to have issues I may take it to the dealer and have them give it a look. I'm hoping it doesn't throw the code again.

I'm getting this code too and took it to the shop. Mechanic suggested I get a tune-up first since I'm at 70000 mile and I was suppose to have it done at 60000. If that doesn't work he said I may need my cats replaced.

So codes P0421 and P0431 appeared again (3rd time) on my car. I have an '06 GS with (115,xxx miles). I read hear somewhere that the recall was strictly on the GT. Is this correct? Is there anything I can do. If not I'm going to get RRE headers and fix it that way. But I'll still need a reflash I suppose.

Was just doing some research and if the tune-up doesn't clear the code I'm just going to get OBX longtube headers to get rid of those first 2 catalytic converters for good!

step 1: buy headers
step 2: install headers
step 3: live with the dummy light, or play with the spacers, or buy an OBD-II scanner to clear it
and IIRC, the recall was only for the GT...
