My squeaky rattle hunt
I wanted to report on my rattle hunt, just in case anybody else might have the same problem.
I had a fairly high frequency squeaky rattle from the rear of my car. Sounded like a very high pitched "eek eek". Of course it was driving me nuts, like high pitched rattles will. The problem was more pronounced when running over things like lane reflective markers. The sound was from the back of the car, but I couldn't locate it in the back seat or the cargo compartment. I tightened everything I could find. Eliminated the seats, the RF Sub-Woofer, and the interior panels. Drove the car with the hatch open to eliminate the hatch as the tattle source. Finally, by chance, I was standing by the rear hatch looking for anything that might be the source. I noticed that my driver side taillight assembly was a little loose. I opened up the taillight access panel and tightened the assembly. Rattle gone! So, an exterior assembly was causing a high pitched rattle that sounded like it was from the interior. Of course the assembly is attached from the interior of the car, but it is not immediately obvious that this could be the source of an interior rattle. Just FYI. |
