Post HOWTO: Repair broken sunroof sercurity bracket

Remove 3 bolts from within cab of car, then remove sunroof glass.

From the top of the car, locate the sercurity latch/lock assembly.

Reference image of example broken, and unbroken, latch assembly.

Remove the retaining clip from the rear of the security latch assembly.

Image of sliding latch, and broken hinge (the piece that moves the latch.

Reference of broken hinge where it connects to slider assembly.

Image of hinge in proper position, without sliding latch attached.

To reinstall the glass, you simply make sure that the sunroof tracks are in the CLOSED position, refit the glass on top of the tracks, and rescrew the bolts back into place.

If you do not have a replacement hinge for the broken piece, you can simply remove any remaining pieces, thoroughly clean and regrease the track areas, and remove the sliding latch as well. Keep these pieces, as you may need them when you are able to find a hinge via junkyards or other sources.

I hope this helps out if you are having issues with your sunroof opening or closing, as well as any grinding noises you may hear, or after hearing a loud snap during opening or closing of the sunroof.

I hope you can find these images. A few years ago I took my car into the dealership for a snapping/clicking noise when the sunroof opened/closed. They wanted something like $2000 to repair it, but the clicking has gone away.

If it comes back, it's likely that this is the cause of the problem, and I would LOVE to be able to tackle this myself.
