So when i drive my car at speeds above 55 mph i get this nasty steering wheel shimmy (seems to shake/vibrate side to side). Before this started happening i think my tires had started to become feathered on the inside and still are, both front ones. First thing that comes to mind for me is bent wheel or alignment issue. brakes don't pulsate when stopping so it shouldn't be that. Drives straight.
you didnt install spacers or new wheels, did you?
if not then yeah, i'd say either your tires are wearing out bad, or one of the balncing weights fell off the rims !
that also happens when you have mud stuck inside the rims, but that's a truck-issue, not a $G issue (hopefully )
when the steering wheel shakes, how do you tell if it's the right or left wheel / tire???
it's a somewhat sarcastic yet totally serious question, Jason...
regardless if its out of alignment or not, which is probably the case here, when you put aftermarket wheels on this car and you do not install hub centric rings, you will have bad steering wheel shake no matter how many times you get your tires balanced.
