My 2007 Car Alarm Issue! <Need Help!>

Ok for awhile now for no real reason that I know of my car alarm is going crazy. For the past few months its been going off 4-6 times a day for no reason. I've been ignoring it for awhile but its gotten pretty bad and i can't handle it anymore. My girl has to walk around the house with my spare keys in her pocket 24/7 because of it.

Basically it just goes off for no real reason. Morning, night and day it doesnít mater. It seems to go off more during the day while thereís more traffic on the passing road. But the car doesnít have a Prox sensor so that donít make any since. As of right now BOTH door sensors are detached and i can fully unlock and open both doors while the car alarm is active and it doesn't go off. I've trying jumping on the car and bouncing it trying to set it off and nothing. But for some reason it goes off randomly. I've looked into the near by area and nothing that i know of is doing it. And its not only just at my house but while Iím at the store and at work also.

So any ideas of what else i could try? I'd take it to the dealer but honestly... if i can't figure it out, the dealer won't have a fuckin clue either.

Its gone two weeks just parked and not gone off the first week and then all of a sudden gone off every day the second week.

Iím puzzled and looking for helpÖ what you guys think?

2006 didnt have one... the 2007+ do.

If you have a little red light on the dash that blinks then you do. =)

But any ideas from anyone?

Mine has gone off randomly on a handful of occasions...each and every time it was an extremely windy day...my guess was the wind was getting in through the door crack and moving the sensor just enough to set it off. I guess it possible vibrations from passing vehicles could do the same...but if it goes off THAT much you need to take it to the dealer.

I have a little blinking light on my 2007 GS but I thought that was just a cheap theft deterrent, so I have an alarm? That's cool if I do. I don't think there is a good way to diagnose the problem without getting into the wiring and testing stuff out to see if you have a dead wire, short or a blown fuse. I don't know if there is a way to run a diagnostic on the "brain" of the alarm but that would be good too.

Might be the CF hood... my alarm started going off randomly a while after I got my hood... my local mitsu dealer fixed it tho... but just a couple weeks ago my alarm started going off again randomly... so I just took out the alarm fuse... so i no longer have an alarm or horn... might be a recall thing cuz I have an 07 too...

Update: NOTHING NEW... STILL BROKEN!

Right now the cars sitting with the battery unhooked because it can't sit 5min with out the alarm going off. I unhooked both door sensors and have tried to cause to go off and I cant. While armed i can open both doors, unlock them, pop the hood, jump up and down on the car and open the trunk with out setting anything off. But yet while everything is secure it will go off 15-20 times a day.

I'm gona try as bmshue suggested and take the fuse out and hopefully it'll deactivate the whole alarm and not just the horn section of it.

But it still sucks because i need a damn CURE for the issue because the shit fucking sucks! There are NO OTHER sensors i can find that could possibly trigger it. And unless i bumped a pin while wiring in the FIC i can't figure it out. And if that’s the case I’m gona have to pull up the pin diagram again and go through them one at a time. But you would think that if it was a lose pin that bouncing the car around would trigger it and would go off.

Its nerve wracking for sure. Of 100 issues i COULD HAVE my biggest one is a stupid alarm glitch.

I've never had an issue with my alarm, but on a work truck I once had the alarm going off all the time, turned out to be a bad sensor, it had dirty contacts inside......It could actually be your shock sensor, find that and disable it........mine has a shock sensor, because I tested it once, I whacked the drivers window real hard and set it off......

and if you have an alarm, your fob will be part of your key, my key has the trunk button and everything on the key.......damn near 300 bucks to replace it.......

oh and another issue you might want to look into.....we miss you, so we've sent gremlins over to set your car alarm off every 2 minutes so you would post in here again........

If there is a shock sensor i can't seem to find it or set it off. But i might call a tech later and check on that.

I'm with ya bro........I got laid off 3 weeks ago......I'm feelin the crunch as well.......but, I'll tell ya this, and I know I'm goin off topic but, I put my car up on a dyno rack last week, and they got their big fan out to put in front of the car, and I reached inside and hit my toggle that turned on the fans, they were very impressed and gave a big thumbs up on that little mod, and were looking how to do that on other cars.......I did not get any numbers from my dyno runs because as we started the first run the damn machine broke something......maybe when they get it fixed ....stay alive bro.....peace

When your car is parked elsewhere in the city does the alarm still go off randomly? If not, may be there is radio interference in the area you live in setting the alarm off.

My Aunts wireless phone used to open and close her garage door every time she dialed her phone, believe it or don't. So she had to buy a new phone.

Maybe the battery in your key is low and this is the signal to have the battery checked/replaced?

Do you have any DTC set? If there is a problem with the system it should set a code.

May be the system needs to be reprogramed.

So you've checked all the sensors, and didn't find anything at all?
You haven't had any accidents or anything lately, have you?

My parents had an older Elantra (hey, they're my parents, don't flame me) that had an accident with the front bumper. The hood barely sat on the sensor, and tripped the alarm everytime the sensor didn't touch the hood. So it would randomly go off...

I guess that's what BMSHUE51 was talking about earlier in the thread, which of course, never really got resolved.

I've checked both keys to see if there faulty and thats not it. The alearm goes off anywhere i take the car so thats not it. No ones hit my car so thats not it. There is no hood sensor on my car so thats not it.

I need a way to disable the thing for awhile untill i figure it out but i realy don't think you can.

I'm still just clueless.

SoCalChino has a spectacular aura about
the issue is with the hood. i had the same problem. the hood is too light and does not push the hood sensor down completely. you need to find a way to depress the sensor. i simply used a couple of washers and double sided tape on the hood where the sensor makes contact. problem solved.

that switch doesn't affect the alarm.......I've armed the alarm while holding that thing in and let it go, it doesn't set off the alarm.....I dunno what that switch is for, I've been meaning to ask, but its not an alarm switch.....

trust me. After I put the washers on the hood to make better contact with that switch, I haven't had a problem since.

Look at your fuse diagram in your hand book... the fuse will de-activate your horn too but it worked for me... its one of the fuses under your hood not under your dash near the steering wheel...

Ya know... i've checked the hood a few times already but i forgot about that little switch there. And i've adjusted my hood pucks a few times which realy could explain why its doing it now and not before.

So ya... i went ahead and unplugged the hood switch and we'll see if that fix's the issue.

Thanks guys,

ya... it ended up being the hood switch. Just disconnect it completely and it'll just bypass that sensor. Everything works fine with out it.

This problem is back. a little different though, as the factory alarm (not the the aftermarket) will go off automatically. the odd thing is I never set it to begin with.

My neighbors are freakin out because Im either not home or im asleep when it goes off, so i really need to get this resolved. Where is this hood switch and how do i disable it? will I still be able to pop my hood open?

the hood switch is on the left side of the engine bay, along the fender well, about mid way into the engine bay, it's a little rubber looking plunger pointed up at you....I looked at pictures of my engine bay and none of them go over that far to see the plunger....it's there all by it's lonesome self......if you don't see it, I'll take a picture of it specifically if you'd like....it's just cold out there and i'm being lazy....

Thanks danester. a picture isn't needed at this time but thanks for the offer, if i cant find it though i may take you up on it (give it a chance to warm up). I'll definitely give this a shot, but the thing that concerns me is this issue happens when the alarm is not armed. from what i have read in the prior post, and even in my last situation with the FB hood, this issue is easily resolved...but nothing so far has worked.

i went by Mitsu today, and they said they've heard of this problem somewhat regularly BUT in order for them to try to fix the issue, it'll cost 95 an hour (thieves) and i have to pay for a minimum of two hours. seems pretty F'd up if you ask me, and Id hate to succumb to that if its an easy fix like this thread implies.

Also, I just spoke with my neighbor, a mechanic, and he said this issue could happen if the battery terminals are lose or its losing a charge. when i heard this, i thought this may be a solution because I recently upgraded to the red top optima and the positive terminal isn't "perfect". Anyone think this is a possibility?

ill go over both options tomorrow and hopefully its resolved

if your installer wired the aftermarket alarm using the driver's door key cylinder for lock and unlock, everytime you lock the doors using the aftermarket remote (key cylinder sees ground on lock side due to aftermarket module outputting a ground to the lock wire, which is most likely wired to the drivers key cylinder), it will automatic arm the factory system.

i say unplug the sensor or pry it up.

I have a question for the remote programming :
I purchased a Mitsubishi eclipse 2008 w//o the keyless remote.
Also I ve got a remote on ebay and tried to program it w/o success.
The car key will start the engine but when I unlock the driver's door does not unlock the passenger door ( or lock the passengers door) the button to lock or unlock inside in both doors work.
At the same time when I unlock the drivers door with the KEY the alarm goes off. and the only way to switch off is to start the engine.
Does any one have an idea where the problem may be?

thanks !

After my mitsu sat for a year and I replaced my battery, I have an issue with the alarm activating, regardless if the alarm is armed or not. It only seems to happen when the sun is at it's hottest and only on hot days...85 or above and sunny/hot. Pushing either the lock or unlock button on the fob stops it...sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for the rest of the day...but it is always sunny and hot. Hood sensor even when unarmed? Any help is appreciated!!
