2006 eclipse engine shaking, smell of burnt, and wants to stall

Ok, so I'm not an expert in cars so I can't give fancy names or such. I'm just a girl whose daddy bought her car new back in 2006. It's automatic and it's a 4-cylinder. So I never had any issues with my car until 2013 when my car turned off while I was at a stop light but all the electronic stuff still worked. We towed the car and later took it to the nearest Mitsubishi dealership to get it fixed. After about a week, I got a call from the dealership saying that it was the belt inside the motor that had broke/torn and they would have to open the motor to replace it. They also recommended replacing spark plugs and some pump since the motor would be opened up and I'd have to replace them in the future anyway. I okayed the additional replacements and about a month later my car was ready and I went to pick it up paying over $2,0000. I noticed before leaving the dealership that the engine idled louder and rougher than before it had broken down, but they told me that since I had a new motor (the top half of it which I can't remember the name of it), that it needed time to break in and that the idling would get better and quieter. Needless to say, I hardly drove the car but I did try to because I wanted to help break in the motor. It never got better so I took it back and the mechanic connected the computer on it and said that it gad to do with the fuel and that I had to use all the gas and put clean/new gas because it had been sitting in my car for too long. I took his word for it and took my car back and did as I was told. It didn't work. I took it back and they had new personnel (service manager and mechanics) and they basically blamed the fired personnel for a bad job on my car and they promised to fix my car correctly this time. After a week, I went to pick it up and we noticed the rough idle was still present but they had taken the engine light off. I took it home hoping it was fixed. My husband opened the hood when I got there and noticed my car was splashing motor oil all over the engine, and that it was leaving a small stain of oil on the pavement. Not even 200 miles and the check engine came back on so I took it again and AGAIN they had new personnel. This time it took them over a month and a half to take a look at my car and after calling and calling to check on the status, I was finally told by yet another newly hired service manager that my oil pan was cracked and I needed a new pulley. Desperate for my car to just be fixed and working properly I paid for the new parts. I just picked up my car from the dealership after it's been there for almost four months..... And I haven't put 100 miles on it and the check engine light came back on. This time however, the engine wanted to stall on me. It could be in Park or on Drive and it'll rattle as if the engine is shaking and it's going to fall off. The rattle is not fast, but rather strong and slower and it feels like it's turning off on me but it doesn't. When I got home from the convenience store , I was scared I wasn't going to make it. As I parked the car, something smelt burnt. I don't even want to move the car anymore. The car has new oil change, new spark plugs, a new pump, a new pulley that goes on the side if the motor, a new timing belt that's inside the motor , and I believe the top part of the motor is called a short something. Please help. I don't know what it could be and I live in an area where that is the only Mitsubishi dealership near me. Since I had been taking the car back over and over due to its 12-month warranty of the service repair (but it's now expired), I'm not sure what to do next or how to sue and much less get my car to work. I could take my car to another general mechanic, but I dobt want the sane things to happen were I'm told to replace new parts (basically buying a new car) and it doesn't get fixed. Any helpful input, experience, or ideas of what it could be is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the top of the engine is called the head.

if valve timing was set incorrectly, that could be the cause of it running rough. the burning smell is a tough one, unless you can tell the difference between engine oil, transmission oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and coolant...basically if the engine smells like its burning, something is leaking. you said after the new timing belt (and I'm assuming water pump), you had an oil leak, was the source of the leak ever identified? you said they replaced a pulley, but pulleys don't leak oil.

Personally I would contact Mitsubishi directly and if they can't help, call a lawyer. It sounds like you snapped the timing belt and basically destroyed your valve train. Its very possible the dealership screwed up the original repair and are basically "band aiding" your car now. There are so many parts involved in the initial repair its near impossible to say what might be wrong. It would really depend on how much damage was originally done and what they did or did not repair and if they even did the repair correctly, etc. Good luck
