HOW TO: Remove Trunk interior

Well this all took me about two and a half hours. With my write-up and the pictures. It shouldn’t take you more than one and a half, even less. First panel I removed had me very dissolution as I broke a piece of the rear end trim. I wasn’t quite sure how to read the clip diagram, but the bit was easily JB welded on again, so all’s good. If you have the service manual you want to refer to Section 52A page 31. I’ll talk those of you that don’t through it, so you don’t really need it.





STEP 1: Remove your, cargo net, spare wheel cover, jack, spare wheel and tools.





STEP 2: _Removal of part #9 The Rear End Trim, that’s the 2 or so sq/ft piece of plastic at the very back end of your car. It has an insert in it that let’s you access the truck release manually. Remember this is your first step and from this you will learn the force requires to pop the clips. The piece has 4 clips on top, parallel to the ground, so you have to pop them up, towards the sky. This is the trickiest part of it all, honest. 2 clips are located in the first quarter of the panel. See pic below. What you want to do is carefully wedge a mid sized flat screwdriver at about 1 inches from the edge of the panel on either side. Push it in far enough that you clear the metal and have some leverage, you’ll know what I mean, then wedge up. You’ll hear a click-pop, STOP, don’t go any further. Next move to about 5 inches from the side on either side and do the same. Lift up slightly and tilt back. And you first panel is removed.

STEP 3: Remove TOP luggage hook part #10. Make sure you only remove the top one, the lower one is screwed on to the panel and not to the chassis. The luggage hook looks like a T shaped hook. This is where your cargo net attaches to if you have one.

STEP 4: For now you are going to be working with the passenger side, although everything reflects to the drivers side, but you may have a speaker to worry about, more on that later. Remove the Light Lens part #11. I used a flat head screw drive. It feels like it’s going to crack the lens, but just use slow gentle force till it pops off.

STEP 5: Unscrew the 2 screws that hold in the light and unplug the plug.

STEP 6: Both rear side panels have 7 screws, make sure you count them. One of them is easily overlooked. Once those are gone, there is just one clip, in abouy 5 inches and down 3. Just tug. Don’t worry about the safety restraint bolts close to the tail lights, you’ll clear them..

STEP 7: I thought it was about time to take out the back seat. So first the lower part, you know the butt cushion. Easiest part of it all. Just tug up at about 8 inches on either side. There are only two clip. You’ll have to feed the seat belt latches through the opening. And out comes the cushion.

STEP 8: Rear seat back support. Almost as easy. A bolt and a nut on either side and out they come.

STEP 9: Assuming you have one. Next step is the sub. Three 10mm bolts, a nut and a plug.

STEP 10: Remove the sub. Base bracket. 3 bolts. I marked around them to make sure I don’t place more than one layer of material underneath it.

STEP 11: Front scuff plate. You could have started with the next steps first, either way. This is part #1. It’s the piece of plastic between your seat and scuff plate that says ECLIPSE on it on both the driver and passenger side. It’s got three clips and clamps. The clamps hold the molding (rubber seal). If it seems like it doesn’t want to come loose and is pulling up your weather stripping seal, just gently make up and down motions with the scuff while pulling down on the seal.

STEP 12: Hind quarter side trim, part #14. These are the large panels that are in front of the rear side speakers. You just have one screw to worry about, it’s at the very lower front of the panel. The panel has 6 clips, all about 2 – 3 inches from the sides. Start at the bottom, gently tug. It’s easy. To get the panel out you do have to unscrew the lower rear seat belt bolts and clip the seatbelt slot trim.

STEP 13: Unscrew the rear speaker cabins and unplug the speaker. Think it was 5 screws. Also noticed that the actual speaker screws that screw into the cabin, or housing, weren’t all that tight. Could explain some of the rattling. There is a seal between the speaker housing and the sheet metal, so tug gently Notice the 4 ohm 25W RF speakers. Pretty generic looking, but RF none the less.

Donno what these vents are about. You can see sunlight on a sunny day if you fold back the rubber. I guess so that your neighbors can hear your bass.

Those little vents in the back behind the panels are to equalize the pressure inside the car with the outside. That way when you close your doors you don't blow out the windows

You'll hear them flip open for a second when you close a door.

Tru that...but when u park for winter like me u get mice inside eating ur shit..

i removed that flap casue the bass rattles it...sounded ghetto
and blocked it off. The windows drop down just before closign the door thats enough to bal pressure.
