need to convert a DVD to wmv??? without virues..

anyone know of... or use a dvd converting software that is trusted??? all of the ones google pops up with are all virus carrying sites (still clean but still)

i was given a DVD to convert to a wmv... and im having hell finding the solution any of you geniuses out there want to shine your knowledge on to this newbie

Why specifically WMV?

There's a slew of programs out there that convert VOB files to AVI. I use DVD2AVI or SmartRipper - pretty simple programs, really. Then you can use some other other program like Any Video Converter to convert between formats.

if you had a mac, id give you everything you need BUT since you use a pc (if i recall) this is a popular program. Anydvd. it should have everything you need. let me know if you need help with anything else regarding DVDs and making copies. "legal" of course.

cool. is each chapter a different file? if so open the lowest numbered and should uncompress to be one file.

well it didnt get converted correctly. it should not hve done that, sound should be included in the file. so if im understanding this right, each one of those files is a chater of one video. so you have to play on chapter, then go start playing the other chapter and so on....?

doesnt look like its sufficiently converted. your wanting the whole movie to be one complete file like what i pasted below, right? i open any of those files and they play the whole movie, including sound, captions/subtitle etc.

ah dude here you go CONVERTER this is what i use for mac. its awesome, does pretty much any format, and has a shit load of presets that fix ratios and stuff. it should do everything you need, i didnt say it earlier because i didnt know they had pc version out

Jordan is sending me a program they use over there that converts dvd's into I dunno what, whenever J decides he wants to send me that if anything I can send it to you once I am done using/copying it. ( I am pretty sure it is dvd to wmv)

that handbrake program is free, and should convert to and from just about any format. ad the presets for ratios and stuff are a great feature. takes the guess work out of it

see this is my situation... Kera's dad catch something incredible and i was in FL for my grandfather's memorial... him and one of his redneck friends had a crappy tape recorder... well he went o a place locally to get it converted to a DVD... so now im trying to duplicate it as well as convert it to digital to share on here as well as e-mails and im having a fit bc i know very little about vids

edit: i checked mine, i have gui. just more graphical versus codes and shit. easy interface.

well no thats not right. see the files are already split, and they shouldnt be. if you have the dvd, i would suggest ripping it again in a different program. you should get one file with all those mini files inside of it. the mini files will be sound, subtitles (dont think youll have that file), and it should not be split by chapter. the video should be one file.

at least thats what should happen in the mac realm.


try puting the TS and RM and all the other stuff inside ONE file. then try converting.

or put it all in one file, then use quicktime to see if it will play by just selecting the main file. if it does you should be set. quicktime also does converting but i find it takes a lot longer than handbrake

ok so i finally got all of it to AVI... now im going to try to copy it to a DVD... it is still to large to send via email so im going to try to host it... then simply insert the link to the vid... instead of messing with Zip

good, yeah once its all in one file things should work out from there. that was the problem. glad it worked out. ive never liked emailing videos, id rather put in on a flash drive and mail it lol
