A race between a 350Z and an 06 or newer Eclipse GT is not a win for the 350.
You need to quit racing by statistics and start racing on pavement. Half of the race is getting in the other drivers head. If you have him convinced that he has to beat you in order to save his face he will blow the launch or blow a shift almost all the time. The one you don't want to race is the guy that doesn't care if he wins or looses, because he's relaxed. Both these cars are close enough in power that either can win the race. It's all up to the driver.

The bottom line is that I've drag raced with 350z'ers before and they all ran anywhere from a 14.0 to a 14.5 depending on traction and that same gap of performance applies to 4th Gen's and times.

Tech I havent seen a stock GT doing 14.0 yet, only 14.3 to 14.5, I still think G35 and 350 stock vs stock wins

The baytown Nissan dealer is just up the street from the Mitsubishi dealer. The Mitsu' dealer says they have lined up with the 350z's and get them off the line every time because the 350 can't transfer its torque to the ground effectively, being RWD. The 350 gets the GT at the top end.

The 350z is one of the hardest cars I've ever driven to launch because it has such a low rpm range, and that torque is all sudden so if you launch too high you're defintley spinning and if you launch too low you're just going to bog and loose.
As far as winning, it's a PURE drivers race, there's nothing more to say about the entire thing. |

Damnit... INVU Manny
I want that clutch/LSD/flywheel combo so bad. ![]() It really does make a world of difference. ![]() I really need to get my budget straight and get with the mods! ![]() For those who are really dead-set on improving that launch, there are also other more expensive and advanced non-FI ways of achieving this - such as solid engine mounts (not recommended for daily driving) and crankshaft knife-edging. Hollow camshafts would be nice, but looks improbable for our market ![]() EDIT: I forget, short shifter. I always fn grind on 3rd! Isn't there one already available for the GT? Yeah - TWM has one, but it's only a 25% throw reduction and 0% height reduction. Unless you cut the shifter more yourself.
But all in all, I've heard the shift quality is a lot better than stock with their bushings etc. Also weighted knobs help. ![]() |
