Well I got an idea if you dont want this site to eventualy end up like the .com ver(which is ok but I dont hope happens here)

Then make sure you have people modding both off topic and the lounge more stringent. As a big problem with that site going to shit is the fact it is over thrown by too much off topic, that just waists bandwidth and makes people sift through too much shit.

Now I know having some off the wall posts are fine but man it got out of hand over there. Some of the threads just didnt need to exist even though its off topic

So I say put a hard ass in there modding *cough* ME*cough* joke

Also modding of newbie area's at some point will become a real big thing aswell, and we all know we dontlike to be asked the same thing 20 times where there are already 20 posts about it that day already. Point being there should also be a tough mod for those type area's aswell, so as to help but dicourage not reading and posting non technical info in those places.

anyway that's my thoughts right now lol, not that it matters

peace

*raises hand*

Just want to get more vendors here, already submitted our club4g.org to eclipseresource.com

Just keep the board clean like it is and focus on technical items, keep OT in OT.

I think the board is running fine now and just keep it with these standards.

Well here is my take on the Off Topic and Lounge.

Off Topic is a place where a member can go on the forum and not have their opinions about anything to be oppressed by a governing body. It's a first amendment forum and I've been using that methodology for many years and has worked out pretty well.

The Lounge, should be moderated and what you mean by having a hardass in that forum I agree. It is a version of Off Topic which people can talk about serious subject matter and any silly shenanigans will be moved to the real Off Topic forum.

The Newbie forum is just that. It's a very liberal forum where people can ask questions and I need someone very "warm and fuzzy" that really loves to help people regardless of how many times people ask which intake is better. But primarily that forum is how people will either feel very welcomed or appalled, so I will be very careful on who I choose to moderate that forum as well. Primarily it is an introductory forum and it is a place where true internet newbies can be taught how to use forums properly.

In regards to regional forums, I tend to want to find leaders of the region that aggressively plan meets, mod days and help unify the region through real life events. If a member just wants to moderate a regional forum for that reason alone, I am okay with that as well.

I'd like to mod GS threads, and be able to sticky some of the hot florida events...

I sitcky what seems important and common, and try to delete or refrence threads of the same topic. On the .com site there must be 1000 threads in the gs section about which intake people used and which one to use.

If you assign it by sections,
Performance and Technical
Regional

Im cool for anything... It's just that I rarely go through the OT.. and wouldnt want the responcibilty of reading through threads and making sure everything provides good evidence for the sponsors of the site.

PS: I'm looged now, and under General forums.. the New Members section and the Parts sectin is not there. Im running the white skin.. idk if the defualt skin has the same problem.

Would you settle for a t-shirt and a squishy tire?

The only way to eliminate those repetitive questions, is to have a stickies thread at the top of each forum. Then add in the forums rules and code of conduct for newbies to visit those stickies first before posting a question. For example, stickies on how to remove the stock h/u should be ontop of the Electronics, Audio & Lighting forum. I'm going to be doing a write-up on simple maintenance items as I do my scheduled maintenance myself. Then, if Russ permits, we can turn those into stickies for the Eclipse Garage forum.

Russ, I'd be more than happy to moderate the California forum.

Ya, I am up for the job. I autox on a regular basis, so I believe I would be good at answering questions about it, and I also help plan a lot of the meets that happen in the region.

With the installation of the new Wiki, the Garage and Parts directory may get eliminated all together. By all means, contribute as much as you can to the Wiki as possible. I'm still building a format for it.

Well, if you want to save some space, you can always have a time or page limit on certain boards....newbie board, off topic, etc... Say after 60 days from its last post, the thread will be deleted...

mo no thats not it at all. Infact the more new members the better. The only and I mean only thing I meant by what I said was, sometimes when a board starts to grow and you have people who have been around forever. You start to see new people come in, and in a wave it starts all the same exact Q's at the same time. Now if they were stickied it would be awesome to avoid that.

You would see though after you becam a real old member and witnessed a few waves of new people like I was talking about, you can see how it could be better handled.

But no new guys are awesome, bring em on

peace

ok just wanted to make sure i wasn't hated b/c im a new guy...this whole being part of an internet club thing is kinda new...but slowly im catching on and understanding how things work here...while we're on the slight subject of newbies...seeing as being im probably the only member that exists in hawaii...i thought about advertising this club with my car probably with the decal sold on tearstone.com...what do you think about that...this will solve the troule of posting a stupid thread about it

We love new members, it's a new addition to the 4G community and helps us all out in the long run by showing support for aftermarket parts from big companies.

I think he was referring to the simple posts that everyone asks when they're new, and to simply eliminate clutter and make it easier for the said newbie to find the information is for it to be stickied right at the top of the new member forum.

I think the decal is a great idea. They're not overly showy, they show support for our community, and will help others get interested into our scene.

I'm not concerned with saving space, we just need this place to run like a well oiled machine.

Where did you get that idea? Go look in the New Member's section, everyone gets a nice warm welcome when they come in.

Hey Russ,

Will the wiki accept PDF documents? That way there's no need to upload photos while composing the write-ups. And since PDF files are smaller, its more accessible w/o having to wait for individual photos to load.

If you did upload a .pdf file to the wiki it would only be posted as a file and noone would be able to look into it until after they downloaded it to their computer first I would imagine.

A PDF file can typically open within a browser window if you select open instead of save. Technically the file gets downloaded into a temp folder on the visitors local HD, then it opens from there. Since PDF files are usually lite, there shouldn't be any problems downloading the file behind the scenes as it is opened.

Also a .pdf file requires Acrobat to be loaded. I like the direction you are going in, but I want minimal inconvenience to get information.

That's an easy fix, as a script can be written to call for the adobe acrobat plug-in. Or create a link ontop of the wiki pages that they can click on to download adobe acrobat. But if that is too much extra work for you, it's cool.
