Hello everyone. I've been looking around on the tires forums and the search but can't seem to find anything answering my question. I'm sorry if I've missed a thread answering this and would love to be directed to it if so.
I'm in need of tires, BADLY. In fact I've been needing tires for 1 1/2 years now lol. Mine are so bare I know they won't be passing state inspection next month. I've been searching around and made a list of tires I'm interested in. Been seeing a lot of mix reviews here and there on all of them so I decided to see if any of you guys have them.
I'm looking for all season with a LOT of grip. They need to be able to handle anything from highway to dirt roads. Also long thread life since I rack up a lot of miles pretty quick.
BFGoodrich - g-Force™ Super Sport A/S H/V
Michelin - Pilot® Sport A/S 3
Goodyear Eagle® F1 Asymmetric All-Season
Goodyear Fierce Instinct™ ZR
Hankook Ventus S1 noble2
I'm currently leaning towards the Hankook. I need something to handle my average driving (normally between 80-120mph) but wont die when I pull into my driveway (unpaved dirt/mud road).
Well if tread life is your #1 then Id be going Michelin Pilots 100% The other ones are more summer tires and will wear out a lot quicker. Not too familiar with the Ventus, but Id still go Pilots for treadwear
grip is my #1. Tread is maybe 2 or 3. Pilot seems like a pretty good ones but they are also the most expensive. Price doesn't really bother me but if any of the other ones are just as good or better I rather go with them.
I agree the Goodyear "G" Force are excellent tires, 245-40-18.
I'm on my third set and love the way they handle, I just hit 50,000 so I do drive my Eclipse hard!!
Before buying your tires make sure you check the DOT on your tires, some can be as old as five-years old and still on the shelf as NEW!! Tires that are five-plus years old loose there oil and flex. I drive at high-speeds so I don't need a tire blowing out on me!!
DOT
The "DOT" marking indicates that the tire meets or exceeds the U.S. Department of Transportation's safety standard for tires. Might find DOT on the inner side of the tire.
Manufacturer Plant Code - "CC"
The first two letters following the DOT marking are codes to identify the manufacturer of the tire and the manufacturing plant.
Tire Size - "9L"
The third and fourth characters following the DOT marking are codes representing the tire size.
Brand Characteristics - "YYY
The final three or four letters are codes representing other significant characteristics of the tire as determined by the manufacturer.
**Manufacture Week - "11"**
The first pair of digits identifies the week the tire was manufactured. In this case, the tire was manufactured in the 11th week. The number 01 would indicate the first week of January, whereas the number 52 would indicate the last week of December.
**Manufacture Year - "05"**
The second pair of digits identifies the year that the tire was manufactured, in this case 2005.
I went through 2 sets (8 tires) of Goodyear Eagle GT on my eclipse. For an all season tire they sure do lay down some good performance. I really can't say enough good about those tires. They lasted a couple years for each set, all year round too in interior Alaska. They balanced up just fine and were very predictable when pushed. A surprising amount of grip for what is considered all season. Other people that have had them on here were also pretty pleased for a DD tire. The only reason I'm not on a third set is because my eclipse is now a summer only toy and I got a set of summer only performace tires a few steps higher.
I'm not saying you have to buy here, but they have really good information about tires, ratings, DOT, wear, and other important information. Take a glance, or read, very good information to know.
anyone have experience with the Dunlop Direzza DZ102?
