Does anyone know if the differentials of the 4G eclipse is the same across the various models, or at the very least, is the diff from and automatic GS the same as the one out of a MT GS? Some may have seem my thread about a blown differential, and while I want to fight tooth and nail to make Mitsu cover the catostrophic damage under the powertrain warranty, I simply can't afford to drive a rental for the weeks, if not longer, in order to get this settled. My 5 speed is in good condition, and I've read I could have the bell housing the diff sits in welded up and a new diff or one from a wrecker swapped in. I need the entire diff - the spiders gears etc, but the rest of the drive line is apparently okay. I'm trying to figure out if I should go for a full transmission replacement - I found one for under $1000, or if I should just tackle the differential for what I hope is gonna be less. If my warranty is f*cked, I might as well just do it myself. It'll give me a better idea of what it's gonna be like when I have the $$ to do some more mods. After all - if Mitsu tells me the warranty is no good - which I think is complete BS, I might as well make my ride MY RIDE. I like the idea of cramming a turbo and intercooler into my GS and creating a nice little 'sleeper' ;)

Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
A

There's much more knowledgeable people on the subject, but from what I know, the MT and AT diffs are different in both the gs and GT. You're best bet for cost is probably a new transmission, as a new dif alone will run you at least 850$ plus labor to rip open a case... however this being said, a LSD for this car is a game changer and puts the car a new level. If you want to go nitrous or boost, do the LSD. If you want to fight your warranty, install another transmission, keep the shredded one until they fix it, also, if you're doing a tranny... might as well to LSD clutch and maybe motor mounts

for LSD's i was told by Dana at Wavetrac that the LSD for the 4G eclipse will fit a lancer ralliart transmission, so technically if that were true then, the Quaife QDH7BR which i have, should fit the 4G GS, which was originally made for the 3G GS model with the 4G64...that being said, the only difference in diffs between the manual and auto trans, is the speedometer sensor drive gear, which on the LSD is pressed on, on the stock diff it's machined into the casting...so technically if you have a manual, my stock diff should fit your transmission, and if you want it, it's yours :)
